Assuming Exum and Vonleh are both gone by our pick (which is a good assumption); and assuming we don't draft Smart (???) - should we take McDermott over Randle?

A 6'8 small forward who lead the country in scoring; Who can rebound as good as a PF; and who can shoot over 40% from the 3 is hard to come by.

We get an oversized SF who can shoot, or an undersized PF who can't shoot.

I honestly think it's down to Smart, Randle or Gordon and I'd be happy with any of them. I would prefer one of the PF though.

I would hate it if the Lakers drafted McDermott! He is a bench player IMO. He can't play D.

The Lakers probably won't pick him, but I am firmly on the Elfrid Payton bandwagon. He has all of the required skills for an NBA point guard. He isn't going to be scoring any 20+ points per game, but he will get about 14 per game with 9+ assists and play lockdown perimeter defense.

You can put some good players around him and have a contending team.

I have to do research on him.

I have to do research on him.

He's really been rising in the draft ranks. He started outside the top 15 and has moved down into and near the top 10. Don Maclean who is a former UCLA star and NBA player runs a pre-draft camp that Payton participated in and he raves about the guy.

I'm not the biggest fan of Randle, but would draft him over McDermott. Now if they traded down....

I saw his highlights very impressive, but I am not sure about his level of competition. I would take him late first round.

McLean liked Adam Morrison. I don't trust him even though I am a bruin basketball fan.

Doug McDermott is the best BASKETBALL player in the draft. He may not end up with the best stats but he is the best pure player out of them all. Smart, great fundamentally, pure scorer, underrated passer, good rebounder. I think he is a 20/8/5 guy easy. While some other guys have more upside there isnt a better NBA ready product than McDermott.

There was a guy from a small school a few years ago that was a hell of a scorer/shooter but people questioned his ability to play D in the NBA and whether his "level of competition " was the reason he scored it so well. He slipped to the 7th pick based on all that and now he is one of the best PG's in the game just a few shoprt years later. Steph Curry?? You may have heard of him. Thats McDermott except McDermott is more versatile and a far superior rebounder.

Everybody liked Adam Morrison. Dude was the #3 pick in the draft the year he came out.

I'm not quite as sold or as high here as you. However, if I had to take a side I would lean this way as well. I am scared that randle may be a career journeyman #7 type player.

Not seeing the McDermott hype. He's the next Jimmer Fredette, imo.

If you don't think McDermott is the real deal, I wonder whether you have seen him play. He's incredible. And I don't care for the guy because he played for my least favorite CBB team. I think whoever ends up with him will be getting a very solid player.

I saw him play, but I also saw Jimmer Fredette and Adam Morrison play and they were incredible too. Being incredible in college doesn't always translate to the NBA.

McDermott may well be a solid NBA player, but with top 10 pick, a team should be able to expect something better than solid. If the Lakers make a trade that includes a later pick in the draft, then I could see them taking McDermott.
