He has the baggage but based solely on his play last year that number is pretty reasonable. Glad we have him, still could use a linebacker in the mid rounds but this eliminated the need to fill a hole in the draft.

Whew! One year, good and I don't think 3 mill will break the bank. Only $700k guaranteed. That is like saying here is your bonus for last year, prove it again.

700k guaranteed makes it a good deal, if he does make the 3mil it means our team is better. Gives us more options for the draft this year.

The devil is in the details but this is a GREAT move for us. Anything over one year I worry about the $'s a lot more than on a one year deal that can't hurt you long term. $700K guaranteed with the ability to make up to $3M to $4M is about what I expected. Again, need to see all of hte details, but this looks like another very smart contract for the Jones boys. In years past there would have been panic and we would have caved in. Now we have patience and end up with a good deal. Worst case scenario $700K. Best case scenario he continues to excel on the field and continues to prove he is now dedicated and gets himself an extrension.

Look out, but this team is a couple of cover guys away from having a very good defense...

Great move. This could be a top 15 defense if we hit on couple guys in draft.

Qbs are not going to like seeing hardy, crawford and McClain busting up the middle.

well....lol, it certainly was what some of us expected

a make good deal based on all the uncertainty surrounding the player was another smart play by the Dallas brass

This is actually a huge move. Rod wants to move Lee to WLB, which is as key to this scheme as 3Tech. Signing McClain allows them to do that. Very nice

So let's assume guys are healthy, the linebackers are set, Crawford, Lawrence and Hardy are playmakers on the D-Line, Barry Church is the only real steady guy in the secondary. Draft a DT and a corner, hope Claiborne can give us anything and we're in pretty good shape.

I think the Cowboys will add a couple of contributors to the defense before the draft and open it up to best player available

Thought you were going to be upset with this one based on how much we gave him.

Dallas let New England set the market for McClain and matched or bettered their offer. Seems that's the way Dallas is doing business these days -- gone are the days of Jerry bidding against himself. I like it. As a lot of have already said, this signing opens the draft up even more. Very excited for training camp to get here.

I said 750 to 1M in guarantee salary on another make good deal while you said he'd gets three times that.

isn't 750 the number

Solid at DE. Fine at 1 Tech since it is not expected to do much more than just "do your job" in this defense. I like McClain. He wasn't healthy last year and I think he plays much better and rotates with Brent who should be better as he will be in Football shape this year. Solid at 3 tech as long as Crawford keeps improving. Great at LB IMO. Two good SS, unfortunately we need to play one of them as a FS. good Corner in Scandrick and a few others with the potential to be OK (Claiborne, bounceback from Car, Patmon still young and could step up). I think this Defense is much improved.

We really are set up to go BPA in the draft. We can certainly use a CB or a true FS and I hope we focus on one or both of these two if someone we like is available. We can use a LB in case McCLain doesn't resign after this year and as we all know he and Lee have been injured. We can use a DE if Hardy is a one year rental and we can use another DT in the mix as well. I like how we are now set up going into the draft.

He did get 3 times that didn't he? I thought you were saying veteran minimum. There is no minimum for guaranteed money, just base salary. As a matter of fact it looks like he got the exact contract I laid out. A Guaranteed amount of around the vet minimum you were suggesting PLUS incentives or non-guaranteed money taking it up to about $3M. That is exactly what I said I would do
