700k guaranteed makes it a good deal, if he does make the 3mil it means our team is better. Gives us more options for the draft this year.

$3 mil is the base pay if he is on the roster for week 1. He has another mil available in incentives.

Solid at DE. Fine at 1 Tech since it is not expected to do much more than just "do your job" in this defense. I like McClain. He wasn't healthy last year and I think he plays much better and rotates with Brent who should be better as he will be in Football shape this year. Solid at 3 tech as long as Crawford keeps improving. Great at LB IMO. Two good SS, unfortunately we need to play one of them as a FS. good Corner in Scandrick and a few others with the potential to be OK (Claiborne, bounceback from Car, Patmon still young and could step up). I think this Defense is much improved.

We really are set up to go BPA in the draft. We can certainly use a CB or a true FS and I hope we focus on one or both of these two if someone we like is available. We can use a LB in case McCLain doesn't resign after this year and as we all know he and Lee have been injured. We can use a DE if Hardy is a one year rental and we can use another DT in the mix as well. I like how we are now set up going into the draft.
I'd like to see the Cowboys select another 3T to go along with Crawford since Rod like to rotate his DL. Brown out of Texas in the 1st round or maybe Bennett out of OSU in the 2nd. Crawford can move around as well, could see them playing together in passing situations. Seeing Hardy, Crawford, Bennett and Lawrence on 3rd and long would be light years from 2013

The only reason I wouldn't go DT in the first round is that they'll be rotating. Do we want to use a first on a guy that isn't playing every snap?

I doubt they would take a 1T in the first, but if a kid like Brown were there, I think they'd be like a duck on a junebug

True, but at the same time the better the guy is the more he will play. Even though you rotate it's tough to take superstars off the field too often. I think if there is a guy they see as a dominant edge rusher or a guy that can break down the pocket or just make a huge impact I am all for it. But, I somewhat agree and don't feel we need to force it. I guess that was mostly my point. We are set up to take any position on defense if the guy we like is sitting there when we are on the clock...

Actually I thought I was in the ballpark with regards to guaranteed money or money actually paid to the player.

either way I'm happy...McClain is a player when he wants to play and it is a make good one year deal

more and more thinking we will trade down out of the 1st round looking to get a pick in 33-35 range and go running back

Totally agree. I would have been nervous if we gave him like a 3 or 4 year deal with his history. For 2015 I'm ecstatic with our starting LBs. Can't think of any team with a 4-3 that we can't at least hang with, with these 3. Lee has All Pro talent. McClain if healthy last year would have made the Pro Bowl and Hitchens was incredibly impressive for a rookie who basically switched positions non-stop from the beginning of training camp all the way through the end of the year. A lot of potential to be great with these 3 IMO...

Why would we do that? I'm not for RB in the first, but even if you are, if you like a guy enough to take him at 33 why would you risk losing him? Just take him at 27, no?

I don't see that. I think they sit at 27 and take what they consider a defensive playmaker....or is that just what I want?

Probably the second choice. BP is always the best but I see CB & RB as our 2 major needs followed by DT and there isn't any of those available

See....I just can't get behind such statements. Way to Kiper like for me.
:suds:

Did not realize it cut off part of my comment. What I said was that I don't see any CB or RB being there at 27 but moving down into the early Second round both would be there and they would not as much of reach as they would be at 27.

Trading down to the 33-35 and taking a RB makes sense. Coleman or Ayagi are going to be feature backs. We also need secondary help. Tj yeldon is going to be a steal in this draft. We can't honestly think we currently have our starting back on this roster. McFadden is made of glass. Randle is an idiot and williams is going to get romo killed.

Good move, 3 million isn't crazy money. He had a very nice bounce back season for Dallas.

Greg Hardy was a very nice acquisition. He's going to be huge for their defense.

I just don't understand why they think so highly of Hayden? The 1 tech should have been addressed in last year's draft.

If Hayden makes the final roster (I don't think he will) it won't be as a starter IMO. I think he is at best the #3 1 tech on the roster before the draft and I'm not even sure of that...how much guaranteed money did they give him?

I wouldn't be so sure on Haden. Rod loves the guy and it's easy to see why if you attend a game. Haden is balls out to the whistle...play after play. Effort goes a long ways playing his position and he's pretty good clogging the lane. I like the guy and think he sticks another season but I guess the draft will be a strong indicator to that.
