the only way in category leagues i can see bringing in the double is to make
5X5

RBIs, Runs, Slugging%,SBs,OBP(took OBP over BA because slugging% is closer to BA than OBP)

notice there is no HRs anymore...

If you're going to use OBP & Slugging, why not just use OPS?

Pitching stats are not dependent on eachother, it is true that we try to find the pitchers that accomplish the most statistics... But all of them stand alone..

Wins- you can get wins w/o a good ERA, or WHIP or any Ks
Ks- you can have a lot of Ks w/o good ERA or whip
WHIP- not neccessarily mean a good ERA or any Ks
ERA- you can have a good ERA with a bad WHIP and no Ks
They might play well together, but none are dependent on eachother

With offense OPS is dependent on HRs and OBP or BA so having it as a 6th category is awful...

Playing well together and being dependent is 2 different things... We try hard to draft the offensive players who are good at every category, but that doesnt mean the stats are dependent on eachother...

Maybe thats just me, but i prefer categories that stand on their own, and it is possible to do well without doing well in other stats(does not have to be likely)- RBIs seems dependent on HRs, as it is almost always that whoever is in top 5 in HRs is also top 5 in RBIs, but that is not as much to do with the category as the players who we draft...

Milk,

Offensive stats help each other in exactly the same way pitching stats do. There is more than 1 way to earn them and they are not dependent on each other. Sure, players who hit lots of HR get lots of RBI, but Allan Craig was leading the NL before his injury despite like 13 HRs.

So no, ERA and WHIP are not dependent on one another, but the correlation is the same (maybe even stronger) than the correlation between hitting stats.

If you don't choose categories wisely, than certain players will end up being overvalued, but I think you are being a little too stubborn with the OPS thing. If OPS were added as a 6th category, then there is probably too much emphasis on power, but if you add a 7th to balance that out it can work.

By the way, I like Jim's hits allowed idea (or baserunners allowed to mirror OBP). That could work very well.

I wouldnt be opposed to make a 7X7 to mitigate any importance of one stat over another... But still think that no category should be directly dependent to another... Not saying the categories shouldnt work well together, just dont like them to directly affect eachother(OBP+HRs, and OPS).

especially in rotisserie, the last thing you want to do is make a single type of player more important than another...

But i am ok with the traditional 5X5, and dont need it to be too complex- i may be wrong but if you have too many categories, it may make it easier to punt one...

Definitely easier to punt with more categories, but the trick is to make it so that it is hard to punt just one.

For example, if Ks are the 7th hitting category and you load up on power at the expense of speed, then you are going to likely hurt yourself in Ks and possibly runs too.

Wow, I come back from work and see a trade proposal and withdrawal...not to worry, Fuzzy. It was a very tempting offer, but I'm not entirely sure I would have accepted. :noidea:

I was excited too...
but his 3 HR and 3 SB week may end in vain with me losing both categories anyway.

I would have been very disappointed had I made the trade and Price rebounded like I think he is going to. Sorry for flip flopping.

I guess jhonny Peralta is destined to be on my team this year. In a strange way, Eaton did me a favor by going on the DL, made it a little easier to activate Chapman.

Man, been trying to find a way or a player to sit McGahee for but the dude just keeps getting on base and driving in runs..........be nice if he could hit a few over the fence though.........thinking the baseball gods are punishing me for trading Joey Bats and Bummy..........looked good on paper anyway.

In one of DDude's leagues, I just dropped Eaton. Too many DL guys. Picked up Eovaldi-I needed to keep my pitching viable. I still have 4 guys on DL with only 2 DL spots. Injuries make for tough decisions.

Scioscia is an idiot. You call up two prospects, Green has two hits last night and a fantastic catch (at a position he just started playing), and gets the bench today (for Cowgill or Stewart depending on which way you look at it), or for the actual LF replacement Raul Ibanez and his .150 average, who by the way is batting clean up!!! And the prospect you called up to replace Ibanez at DH (hopefully), has three hits and a couple of ribbies, only to get moved from 5th in the lineup to 7th (I understand LHP vs RHP... I just don't agree with it). And if Pujols wasn't banged up, he'd probably be riding pine too. I hope Darvish goes lights out today and strikes everybody out! (except Cron of course :) )

You need a spark, you get one, then you put it out on purpose. :noidea:
