I think it comes down to a system that doesn't mesh with the talent. Sather is paying upwards of 23 mil a season for Richards, Gabby and Nash to play a slow, plodding defense first 1-2-2 trap/clutch and grab game.

There is no reason for NY to rank last in goals scored in the east with that kind of talent up front. Except it makes perfect sense when you see what type of gameplan the Rangers execute every nite.

Exactly. He's a very sharp coach but he has a short shelf life due to his style.

Agreed. And Nash is still producing in that system anyway. But that defense-first strategy really stifles Gaborik in particular, I think.

To be honest, and IMO, I don't think Lavy is the problem unless you don't think he gets the troops up for the games. I think he should try switching up the first 2 line at least. Maybe switch Hartnell and Simmonds or something. I also think it was a mistake giving up on JVR and trading him.

The guys on the Pens post-game talked about the Torts thing. He openly criticizes players unlike any other NHL coach. Really, who else will straight up call out his guys? The way that Grove explained it was "how many times can you kick a dog?" Sure, the first time or two the dog may bite, but after awhile, it'll just whimper in the corner. Gaborik seems to be the most affected by this for certain. He doesn't respond to it. A lot of them aren't responding to it. If there's a team under achieving based on the talent, it's the Rags.

Id personally be excited for Torts vs Philly Media. We are missing Pronger's trolling, but at least Torts would provide some form of comic relief.

Well that is kind of Lavy's problem. He can't adapt. When you guys swept our asses away in 2011, and when the Devils embarrassed us last year Laviolette just got brutally out-coached.

Obviously I'm not in the locker room, but he seems to preach that "Play with jam" shit more than actually adapt and strategize. (I could be totally wrong, of course.)

I just think a change is needed, all coaches have a shelf life, and if a Cup-winning coach like Torts is on the market, I want him.
