Huge pickup for Washington. Scherzer's an amazing pitcher.

Good god, their rotation is nasty already. Add him to it and it's probably the best in the MLB.

Looks good enough to win the NL East for sure

Scherzer
Strasburg
Zimmerman
Gio Gonzalez
Fister
Roark

I would think they might move Zimmerman or Fister for 1B, RF or any other holes

So just under 26 per, what did the Tigers offer again?

144 Mil.

He's better suited for the NL. Doesn't go deep into games, so getting pinch hit for wont limit him.

Assumed he'd be back, but glad his isn't for 7 years. That's just crazy.

was that 6 or 7 years Smitty?

I agree anything over 5 years for a lot of these guys is to much.

Yeah 6 or 7 year deals for guys over the age of 30 is a joke.

I wouldn't mind giving a 7 year deal to someone 27 or 28 years but not so someone who will be pushing 40 by the end of his contract

So 144 was Detroits offer and I think the Nats gave him what Detroit basically paid JV

Six, I believe.

But one of those would have been last season. It was towards the end of ST when the offer was rejected. He would have been 35 at the end of the deal, instead of 37 like we will be with this one he inked.

I wish him well. Seemed like a great teammate and good guy. Can't fault a guy for taking what's offered. And he landed with a serious contender, that's for sure.

Great signing by the Nationals. Gotta hand it to them. My team was too cheap to sign him even though they desperately needed him.

If the Nationals don't win it all this year then will it be a bust?

Absolutely.

On paper, they are the unquestioned best team in the bigs. But they have a sophomore manager who stubbed his toes a LOT in his freshman year.

7 years $210 million deal contract.

Half the money deferred (MLB is such a joke) and will pay him $14 million for 15 years.

This is one of those contracts that almost always come back to bite a team in the ass.
