McDaniels...I think Bowlen gave him too much power to start, but bottomline, he wasn't ready to be a HC then.

From what I've heard about BB's coaching style, he's very detailed and very involved in all phases during the work week, but on game day, he lets the other coaches do their jobs. Guys that leave the flock and get HC jobs are normally have failed, in McDaniels case, maybe he's just better suited to be an OC...it's not a bad living.

I would agree they gave him too much power. They just fired a coach who was pulled in a hundred direction being HC, OC, and GM for the Broncos and what do they do but hire a young guy and ask him to take all those responsibilities as well. I think the Broncos learned a lot from that mistake though as obviously bringing in a strong presence like Elway was huge.

The rush defense has been worse, the pass defense has been better. But I still am curious about the hot takes you talked about.

And really the run defense hasn't been as bad as many think. They gave up a 50 yard run to the Bengals. Without that one run they are pretty much a top-10 unit. Not quite what they were last year but still pretty close. If we want to look deeper than just that one run most of the big rushing yards (yards per average) have been given up in the 1st drive of the game. After that the Broncos have shown they clamp down on most teams and play at the same level they did last year. If we want to look even deeper than that over 25% of the rushing yards we have given up this year have been from QB scrambles. Nobody is open and our pass rushing lanes have not been disciplined. So actually it is when they are passing that we are struggling the most to stop the run not when teams actually try to run against us.

I would also add that while 4 games is a decent sample size it is still pretty limited to what a team will actually do over the course of an entire season.

It's a SSS, yes. It was intended to address the so far question, however.

Well...SD, JAX, maybe TB (I know 1st yr, but they had 9-10 win expectations) and CHI could open this yr. Maybe McDaniel gets another shot....I can see him working well with a vet QB like Rivers.

Speaking of...rumors of Rivers getting trading are surfacing to NYJ.

Oh I think McDaniels gets another shot and he should. And honestly I think he will find success. The guy is a great football mind. Whatever team takes him on though needs to realize they need to have a strong infrastructure around him to keep him in line. He needs to learn that if he hires the coach he needs to trust them to do their job. Maybe the biggest difference between Kubiak in Houston compared to now in Denver is he said that he has learned how best to delegate and trust his Coordinators to do their job. He gives input but tells them final say is up to them. So if McDaniels can reach that point and have people to not just be yes men around him and that he will respect their opinion then the sky is the limit for that kid.

As for the rumors it wouldn't shock me. Fitzgerald has quickly regressed to his old QB ways after a very nice season. If the Jets still view themselves in a playoff window this year and the next couple then it makes sense. They need a QB for the next few years and the Chargers need to hit the reset button a bit.

Actually was listening today on First Take and one of them suggested the Broncos should trade Lynch and a 2nd round pick to the Chargers. Of all the things that have been said on that show that one might take the cake as worst ever.

He's definitely earned another shot, but Norv Turner and others have proven that sometimes being great on one side of the ball doesn't make you a great HC. I'm not saying he won't be a good HC, but imo it's really hard to turn a losing team around unless you have a great staff, great GM and some good players willing to buy in.

Most guys try to do too much like you said. I think the best thing for Tomlin was he had an established DC already on staff and several experienced position coaches, had a great QB, and several solid vets...he basically had to hire an OC, and re-energized them...his biggest challenge was putting his stamp on the draft...his 1st few drafts idt he had a whole lot of input...now IDT Colbert takes any player without Tomlin's stamp of approval.

Maybe Fitz can get it turned around (I hope not this week), but a guy like Rivers drastically changes that Jets franchise.

Oh I agree with all of this. Heck when Wade Phillips was hired by the Broncos I remember his first time at the podium he said something like "I'm a terrible Head Coach but I am a great defensive coordinator." And so far he has shown that to be true. Everywhere he has gone defenses have been pretty darn good when he is the DC but the team begins to fall apart as soon as they promote him to HC. Sometimes it takes a few failures for a coach to realize that.

And I do agree that Rivers drastically changes the Jets but the issue being we are already a quarter of the way through the year. They are already tight against the Cap and would be taking on a decent size contract. Rivers would take some time to get to know the offense and their defense isn't good enough to cover for them while they wait for him to get up to speed. Maybe in the off season I could see it happening but right now I think they are stuck with Fitzpatrick leading the way.

OC/DC...yep, spot on with Phillips...his dad was a good man and he seems to be as well...realizes where his strengths are. So far Quinn is doing an okay job here in ATL, imo '17 or '18 will be his next level type season...the DEF still needs some more pieces but as a HC he seems to have a grip.

I don't expect Rivers to go anywhere mid season, but next year I really expect the Jets to be active in the vet QB market and if SD continues on this path, they will be in line for a young QB in the draft to start over with.

Yeah I think the writing is on the wall in San Diego. The team is going through some major transitions. They could be playing in a different city next year. My guess is unless things turn around in a hurry that McCoy will be gone so the new coach will want to put their stamp on the team and nothing does that more than a new QB. I"m guessing next year that Gates is no longer there combined with already having Weddle move on this year just seems like the team is really ready for the next era and I don't think Rivers will be a part of that.

And it does seem like the Jets would be a good fit. I think the Jets will be just good enough to get a mid-1st round pick. At that point usually most of the can't miss QB prospects are gone. So then trading for a big time veteran like Rivers who has already proven to be a top-10 QB in this league makes sense with the roster they have.

I'm more surprised about a thread about the Falcons going longer than 5 pages.

This thread has more BS ratings then all the Brady/Pats threads combined. Fucking comical!

To be fair, 90% of the posts in this thread aren't about the Falcons.

This thread is more of an example of why being an obnoxious douche, while getting your 1st thread lots of posts, means you don't hang around long among actual sports fans.

I don't think he did, you can still view his profile. We hats funny to me is I see him as a chatter box, but reading a number of posts from others from Rivals there's a bunch of chatter boxes. I'm thinking it was just their style. They'd fit perfectly in the politics board.

Throwing wood on the fire....

Here's a chart (courtesy of ProFootball Ref) of all of the 300-yard receivers and 500-yard passers since 1960.
