Matt Damon's nephew tries out for Huskers - Big Ten Blog - ESPN

There was a buzz in Lincoln yesterday, as Hollywood star Matt Damon was spotted on Nebraska's campus.

Turns out, football was the reason for Damon's visit. More specifically, his nephew -- Ishmail Jackson -- wants to walk on to the Huskers and went with Damon to check things out.

Actor Matt Damon would add excitement to Nebraska games.
According to 247sports.com, Jackson has enrolled at the school and will try to make the team as a defensive back. The 6-foot, 180-pounder played for South Broward High School in -- where else -- Hollywood. Oh, wait. That's Hollywood, Fla. He'll try out for Nebraska coaches next month.

Damon is married to Jackson's aunt, Luciana Bozán Barroso. He and Jackson toured Nebraska's campus and came away impressed with the academic support system.

“It was Matt’s first time and he was amazed,” Jackson told 247sports.com. “He said Nebraska had so much to offer. We went through the whole orientation process. He found out a lot of stuff he didn’t know. He was like ‘Man, I love this. It’s great. The setup here is great. They don’t want you to drop off.’ That’s the main thing he liked about it. The college is not going to just let you be out there on your own. There’s help everywhere to get the help you need.”

Jackson said the actor has become a Nebraska fan.

“He racked up so much Husker gear at the bookstore,” Jackson said. “He bought everything.”

Like Steve Taylor said on NSN tonight...recruiting stars don't mean much when guys show up and just want to work. (paraphrasing)

I hope he can make the team and someday contribute. Love the quotes.

Sounds like he has a great attitude. Can't find it now but heard he turned some heads at U of Miami camp too.

Really like this pick up... above average athletcism. He did only weigh 150 at one point which made him less recruitable but he told the staff at 247Sports that he's up to 180 now. Not sure on his forty time but he definitely seems fast enough. Good athleticism. Great pick up because we get a kid that has decent talent coupled with great work ethic and we don't have to spend a scholarship on him. Also, having Matt Damon as a spokesperson for the program can't hurt. I hope he does well.

Did anyone ever hear why this kid chose Nebraska of all places? He lives in Florida....

Anyways, I am happy he is enrolled and planning to try out. I've seen Bourne Identity so I understand what he potentially brings to the table

Not clear on the details but he was making phone calls to BCS level schools asking about their walk on programs. He called Jeff Jamrog because he had heard of Nebraska's extensive walk-on program and then wanted to come visit to see for himself. Not sure what made him call Nebraska but i'm glad he did.

Everyone knows the best walk on program is Nebraska

It's the one thing recruits and schools won't lie about. Good news for us he looks talented and we lose majority of the secondary next year.

Hey we've shown we're 2-3 star friendly and shown amazing ability to turn 2-3 to 4 stars Before they touch the field:nod:

Interesting! I had not heard that, i read that he was calling schools. Makes sense that that's how he might have heard of us. either way, i welcome the young man.
