lead the league in fantasy points????

This is a question to you guys not a statement.

I have not ever been a big Stafford guy but this year I really like him. I might even go as far as to say that I think he has a shot to league the league this year in fantasy points. Is that crazy?

I don't think it is. People get down on him because he has the best wr in the game and has not been able to put together an above 500 season, but Calvin is really all he ever had, there has never been a solid number 2 to take the heat off of Calvin and make defenses pay when they double and triple team him. Yet Stafford still throws for over 4,000 yards every year like he is picking coconuts off a tree in some kind of nature walk down in the islands.

This year however, I think he has found that number two wr. A guy who can demand double teams himself and cause the defense to pick their proverbial poison so to speak. There number two wr will be Eric Ebron.

And for that reason I really like Ebron as well to be a huge break out candidate.

Another fact worth noting, the Lions new OC comes strait out of NO and lets face that is one of the most high powered pass happy Os in the land. I think the OC will try to emulate and incorporate the same O in Detroit. In his mind he is thinking hey if it works in New Orleans why not stick with it in Detroit.

The Lions schedule looks great on paper playing teams like the saints, patriots, buffalo and they all ready play in a great offensive division where all the teams can score (Green bay, Chicago, Minnesota) and should provide some big shoot out, high scoring games.

Plus the kicker of all this is that Detroit secondary is HORRIBLE and should provide more than enough need for a perpetual motion like offence if I am saying that right. Maybe Lefty who I believe is a retired rocket scientist can tell me if I am using that phrase right.

Anyway, I can see 5,500 plus yards and maybe 40 to 50 TDs.

What say you!!!!

I see a much more balanced, yet, more efficient attack now that Linehan is out of the picture. Stafford has a very good year, but still falls short of the elite 3.

...throw a TD pass to Calvin Johnson!

Seriously, good, well-thought post, Foot. You may be reaching a little high, I think I agree more with Treff's assessment.

I don't see him putting up 2011 numbers again in his career, fantasy wise.

You ever see how high up in the tree you have to go to get where the coconuts grow? Damn that's some good reach there Staff!

I think if Stafford is going to be a top 3 QB, he needs to do it this year or next, while Megatron is still close to his prime.

I have a feeling that time is past. .. He MIGHT still have this year.
Honestly Stafford isn't making the jump, not because of the system, the opponents, his receivers, or his own team's defense, it's because he's Matt Stafford, not Manning, Rodgers, Favre, and so on. He's a well above average QB, and there's not one single thing wrong with that. He's just not made of that kind of stuff.

Not sure Id go with well above, but I agree for the most part. He's very inaccurate. Quick hitting slant routes have always been such a big part of the offense with Staff at QB. I think that's due to him as much as Linehan. Tate's good hands should help, but you can only catch what you can get to. Id love to see 40+ TDs again, but I don't think he has it in him.

:agree:

I don't see a season where he limits those INT's. He'll always be Romoish to me. Which is very good, I just won't pay for it.

I had him in one of my fantasy football leagues last year and he killed me in the playoffs.

yup - I'd rather get Romo in the 9th round than Stafford in the 5th. Romo + a 5th rd WR/RB is way better for your team (and your chances of success) than Stafford + 9th rd RB/WR

I sure hope you are right Foot. I have liked Stafford for the past couple of years and I like him again this year. I grabbed him as the #4 QB pick in the Suicide league and I think that is about where he should slot in barring injury to himself or one of the top three QBs.

In the last 3 seasons, only Brees & Manning* have averaged better than Stafford. (Notice Manning has an asterisk.)

Averages
Brees = 5319.3 APY & 44 TD
Manning = 5056 APY & 47 TD
Stafford = 4974.0 APY & 37 TD
Ryan = 4562.7 & 30.

I threw Matty Ice in there so you can see the next best 3-year average.

* Manning's numbers only reflect 2 seasons because he missed 2011. But for the record, if you include a 3rd season for Manning (2010), Stafford jumps to #2, because Manning now averages 4943.3 & 42 TD which is only good enough for 3rd.

Kind of makes you go, huh, doesn't it?

Man guys fantasy football aside, there are some seriously high level intellects in this room and Sam, just kidding Sam. My point is sometimes I wonder if we put our heads together for something other than fantasy football what we might accomplish. Imagine writing the next great novel or movie script as a group effort or solving a long sought after achievement like inventing a human powered flying device. The ideas and creativity that come out of this group make me think what could we really be doing together. Or heck if we just wanted to figure out the lottery numbers. Great job guys! Joe very impressive numbers once again.

Actually for the record the Sikorsky Prize was just awarded last year to a group who invented a human powered helicopter. The prize was offered back in 1980 for anyone who could create a machine that could fly for a certain amount of time would win a prize of 250,000. The prize was just awarded last year, 33 years after the competition was established. Bet we could have figured it out years ago as a group!

Staff has only averaged 30 TDs over the last three years. And he hasn't managed to throw 30 in either of the last two. (41,29, 20)
