interesting...what's the consensus on this? I haven't seen any pre-season, just followed up here. Has he outplayed emery this far?
I think since it's in Philly Mason played a few games there last season and is more familiar with the crowd.
Emery has played more games in frony of these fans
I don't see any sense in this unless they thought Mason was the #1 guy all along.
Perhaps to build up confidence? I have no idea on the decision. Does Mason have better numbers versus the Leafs than Razor?
Peter Laviolette said:We had to have a starting point here. Steve came in last year and really played terrific for us.
Based on the quote I've seen from Laviolette, Mason had the inside track on the first start due to his success with the team at the end of last season. I can't argue with that. He was 4-2 with a 1.90 gaa and .944 save %.
That could it as well. I think they made up their mind that Mason was their #1 and Emery was their backup from the beginning. Otherwise, I felt Emery was better during the preseason, so they couldn't have been competing for the job. If they were, Emery should be starting tonight.
This is just my opinion. Granted, I only watched 1 preseason game period. It happened to be that ugly lossto the Caps 6-3. I watched Emery play like shit and looked very like Bryzy w the juicy rebounds. Again it was only 1 game and did not see Mason.
