i've watched very little.. and even less than that with any attention to detail.. but from what i read, emery outplayed mason in the preseason so that's an interesting decision

I think since it's in Philly Mason played a few games there last season and is more familiar with the crowd.

Not sure what to think maybe Mason has had more success against the leafs? Anyway they should be beat up after last night good start to the schedule.

As good as Emery was last year he was nowhere to be found during the playoffs. If we are going to have success this season Mason will need to return to his rookie season form.

This makes me feel even better about taking Mason in the 15th round. If he can grab half or close to half or more of the starts, he's going to have a lot of value for me. Besides, he was on fire for us in seven games at the end of last season.

Perhaps to build up confidence? I have no idea on the decision. Does Mason have better numbers versus the Leafs than Razor?

That could it as well. I think they made up their mind that Mason was their #1 and Emery was their backup from the beginning. Otherwise, I felt Emery was better during the preseason, so they couldn't have been competing for the job. If they were, Emery should be starting tonight.

Based on the quote I've seen from Laviolette, Mason had the inside track on the first start due to his success with the team at the end of last season. I can't argue with that. He was 4-2 with a 1.90 gaa and .944 save %.

We had to have a starting point here. Steve came in last year and really played terrific for us.

I could go along with this, I was sort of rooting for Mason to be the starter this year anyways.

The way I see it, Emery is guaranteed to be nothing more than backup caliber. At least Mason has a chance of being starting material, even though I don't think it is likely.

This is just my opinion. Granted, I only watched 1 preseason game period. It happened to be that ugly lossto the Caps 6-3. I watched Emery play like shit and looked very like Bryzy w the juicy rebounds. Again it was only 1 game and did not see Mason.

That could be it as well. I guess I just felt Emery would be the starter because he makes slightly more than Mason. Glad they're giving Mason a chance tho, he deserves a shot after the way he played for the Flyers last season.
