Just going by what the coaches have said.

Also, the same thing was said about him when he came out for the draft. He has all the physical tools...but his technique was terrible.

Also, I think he has some strengths that can be utilized in a small way, but it seems that they are intent on keeping him pretty much out until he is fluid enough to be out there every down...which of course may be never

You have quotes of SF coaches saying they didn't coach him properly?

SF has one of the best defenses in the league, yet they had ZERO room for him. If anyone was going to bring the best out of Mays it was going to be that defense. Instead they gave him away for a 5th(?) rounder when at worst he could've still be used as a backup in case of injury.

So far, this is the 3rd coaching staff that hasn't been able to get him on the field for any significant playtime.

Rey is right twice in the same thread. Hell hath frozen over now.

Mays was with a better defense and coordinator. If he was gonna get better it was with them.

My guess is that Mays was Singletarys guy and didnt fit in with what the new coaching staff wanted to do. There are only a handful of DC's that still like that physical, hard hitting throw back type safety that Mays is (Zimmer being one of them). I think the question is that with the NFL rules putting an emphasis on protecting WR's and overall towards the passing game are big, physical safetys like Taylor mays even relevant anymore? I mean honestly, players like David Fulcher, Steve Atwater etc I'm not sure would even have a place in todays NFL as a safety.

Good point.
