To no surprised. Austin is now healthy and cut from our IR and free to sign with another team.

I had such high hopes for him this year after his promising season last year. It would not surprise me to see him end up in Oakland.

I would say he had a great year compared to expectations considering his injury history. I expected that with a solid year behind him that built some confidence that he could maybe even emerge as our top NT this year. Thankfully Sly has gone above and beyond expectations for us. He has really taken his game to a whole new level and is playing in a defense that really fit his skill set coming out of college with a great first step but not really known as a player who can anchor.

Hey Marvin Austin - wasn't a great pro player, but he contributed to the Denver Broncos and didn't cause any trouble. I'd like to shake his hand (probably skip the autograph). He had value on the roster - with the JDL scheme - the Broncos used a draft pick to replace him. I'm sure he saw it coming.

I also think he will catch on with another team before the season is out.

I guess it depends on your definition of great, but that wasn't what I called a great year.

Good year? Sure, maybe?

Great? No!

I would still say he had a good year compared to expectations.

There was nothing "great" about his year last year, I was as big of a fan of the Austin signing as anyone when we made it, but I'm not gonna call it a "great" year by him.

A good/solid year? I can live with that.

Not what I would call great though.

Austin was an elite HS recruit, and 2nd rd NFL pick who never lived up to his hype. He showed flashes but very inconsistent.

Let's be honest here if Austin was "great" we would not be cutting him. Crash is a bit of a drama queen though. :)
