Do these two compete for a roster spot? Is Gray a candidate for the 2nd string TE role? What kind of packages could Roman throw out there with those two plus Kaep on the field together?

Am I overthinking the potential of a 7th round pick and undrafted FA (this is rhetorical, the answer is yes).

Gray will be our QB/WR/TE joker guy.

That would be his role, but BJ Daniels would be a QB/RB/WR. Do we have room for both of them? I don't think so. So are they competing for a roster spot?

Yes, definitely, but not necessarily just with each other. At this point, I think both have the odds against them in making the 53 man roster.

Well, if we're talking about a versatile offensive weapon/joker type role in the offense I don't see anyone else that would be competing with them for that role.

Gray is a stud and definitely a better WR than QB, guy is a tough matchup at wideout. Good size, nice speed but SUPER physical.

MarQueis Gray - RB - 49ers

The 49ers are listing MarQueis Gray as a running back.

Signed as an undrafted free agent shortly after the draft, Gray played wide receiver and quarterback at Minnesota. Presumably, he'll try to play an H-back type role, although he's probably a practice squad candidate at best.
