I would of posted this on the Kings Message Board, but there isn't one. :D

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles Kings assistant coach Mark Hardy has resigned while facing a fourth-degree charge of felony sexual abuse.

In a statement issued Sunday, the Kings said Hardy resigned on Friday.

Hardy's attorney says the former NHL defenseman has entered an alcohol treatment program.

Hardy was arrested last month in Washington, D.C., after a woman said he fondled her in a hotel room after a night of heavy drinking. He is scheduled to return to court July 1.

The 51-year-old Hardy had spent 21 years with the Kings as a player and a coach. After seven seasons in the Chicago Blackhawks' organization, he returned to Los Angeles in August 2008 to join Terry Murray's staff.

I think (and I have no facts to support this) that he was in a two bedroom suite. His wife was in one room and his daughter in the other. He got took a leak and went to the wrong
room. His daughter and wife are the same size and look alike even when you are sober. Thinking he was in a room with his wife he makes a dreadful drunken mistake.
That would explain why they are getting alcohol treatment. It is saying if he was sober this never would have happened.

He is a nice guy. You will not find anyone who has met him to say anything different (outside this instance) I have met him several times. I have even skated with him once after a Kings practice. He remembers fans by name. I have seen a fan looking for an autograph and Mark took the guys jersey tracked down the player and came back.

I have no doubt in what you're saying about the guys integrity Dave, but a couple things about that story are throwing me off.

The "assault" happened to his own daughter?? If so, that adds many more questions that, if true, are questions he needs to address openly if he plans of continuing his NHL coaching career in ANY form.

Just my .02 bro.

The reports are it was his daughter. He was there for her graduation and the two of them got drunk before returning to their room. None of the reports say where the wife was at the time, that is why i am guessing it was a two room suite. His wife was seen with him leaving court after he had a restraining order placed on him to not talk to the victim.

Oh I don't know what happened. I am just trying to make sense of a horrible drunken mistake. I don't think he will ever coach again. Even if the charges are dropped due to lack of evidence his career is over. Even if they can prove he was in another state at the time (which I know is not true) people would talk. I just think it is a shame. He has ruined his career, his family, maybe his marriage and much more by this. My story of what could have happened just seems to be the only answer that doesn't make him a complete monster.

Maybe it is my fault. When I was in high school I used to spend a lot of time at OJ's house in Laguna Beach. His house was on the beach and we went skimboarding there all the time. Nice guy, he would always come out with food and sodas and water for us kids. (25-30 years ago ) He was still married to Nicole at the time. If we saw him around town he always made time to talk to people or sign stuff. I was upset for him as well, but I thought he was guilty.

I blame the wife. The daughter was probably not talking and acting miserable, so the wife asked him to check and see if there is anything going on inside her.

That's a pretty big "outside"....kind of makes everything else null and void...

True True. That is why it is so weird. It is like finding out Mr Rogers is a drug dealer.
That is why I am having a hard time believing the worst of him. My Duck loving wife, who thinks all sex molesters should be thrown off a boat halfway to Hawaii and let them swim to shore is hoping that it isn't true.

I am not saying that it is not true, just it seems so out of the norm for this guy. I think he thought he was in bed with his wife and found out he wasn't. I also think that this will not go to trial. Some deal will be made, either within the family or in the court system.
