Series Thread: Mariners vs NY Mets

I'm not ready to call Kelenic a bust yet, but he is trending in that direction. That said he's only 22 which is very young in baseball terms and he still has hardly any experience above single A. He can still develop the potential that made him a top 10 prospect, honestly my biggest concern isn't with Kelenic, it's that I don't believe the Mariners have coaching in their system good enough to get him to reach his potential.

My main concern is that he never settles in with Seattle, gets traded, and finds his potential in another organization. Wouldn't be the first time the Mariners have done something like that with a position player. Adam Jones, Chris Taylor, and David Ortiz agree. And Tyler O'Neill may ultimately join this list as well.

You could be right.

Aside from the obvious signs of him being frustrated, Kelenic has adjusted his stance and swing so many times now. I really do think with him it's mental. I worry that even if he does figure it out at the plate, he'll get in his head again the second he goes into a slump.

I have no idea what his trade value is at this point, but Kelenic looks like a guy who can hit the laces off the ball but can't figure out when to swing the bat and at what pitches to swing at.

doesn’t apply the tag properly, the ball was there in plenty of time all he had to do was drop the glove and tag him on the arm. Instead he reaches to tag him in the shoulder / upper body and the base runners arm gets in ahead of the tag.
