First Nolasco, then Hughes. The Twins are actually trying to do something to get better, and, I think they are taking a smart path here. Just one more free agent starter, and they will be back on the road to relevance. Now, if the many kid fielders they have can pan out, they give themselves and their fans hope, both for now, and in the near future.

The Bucs seem to like Yankee castoff catchers.

Pirates acquired C Chris Stewart from the Yankees for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Stewart was likely going to be non-tendered by the Yankees after batting just .211/.293/.272 in 340 plate appearances this season. He'll be in the running for the backup job behind Russell Martin in Pittsburgh

By midnight tonight teams have to decide whether to tender contracts to arbitration-eligible players. If they do, the team retains control over the player, the team and the player can negotiate salary for 2014 and, if they can’t come to an agreement over that (i.e. an agreement avoiding arbitration) they will proceed to submit proposed salaries to one another and have a salary arbitration early in the spring.
If the team non-tenders a player, that player immediately becomes a free agent. Basically, the calculus is whether or not the team thinks the guy is worth the low end of what he might receive in arbitration. Or, put differently, if the guy isn’t worth what he made in 2013, he’s probably going to be non-tendered. Not that there are a lot of those guys, as most arbitration-eligible players are young and have just recently made the minimum or something close to it.

If you're using the youtube thingie to post, the XbHxwFxdXXc part is what goes between the tags. Or you could just post the entire link without the tags. I think. Plus, for this particular link, your url is youRube, not youTube. Not sure how you got a typo if you copy & paste. Anywho...

Oldish news, but...
It may not have been the smartest pick for a #5 starter, but I am a very happy camper that the Giants agreed to terms (1 yr/approx. $5mm guaranteed, plus incentives) with Ryan Vogelsong. Y'all know I think he is just so dreamy
