Probably score at least 5-6 point per game more for sure and probably be an even better defender than he was since he could use his hands more to guard. There has NEVER been a guy that had a better 8 year run as a complete player at the start of their career than Big O. From the 60-61 season to the 67-68 season Big O averaged 30.5 ppg, 10.5 rebound per game and 9.8 assists per game. AVERAGED that!! He also shot 49% from the field and 85% at the line all while basically being double teamed every game all game because his team had no real other stars. The guy ( if he hadnt of gotten hurt at the end of 67-68 and never really returned to full form) would easily be the most complete player to ever play the game. Hell he already is IMO. Easily the most underrated player of all time. If he played today he'd be Michael and Magic in the same body.

I guess I have to take your word for it. Blows my mind someone almost avg'd a triple double for years. I dont get why he is not mentioned that often if there wasnt a knock against him.

That is the reason for outrageous stats like Russell and Wilts rebounding. It wasn't that everyone was small, it was that there were so many more possessions and more misses. Oscar would still be a great player today, maybe even the best today, but he isn't going to be averaging 38 12 and 12.

Example of team chemistry being an issue, preseason every one is on the Lakers to do great with Kobe and D12 and Nash but they could never get their chemistry together.

I dont know man, I know pace of play was fast back in the day but ALOT of the advantages skewed defensive. I mean can you imagine an NBA today where goaltending was legal?? The reason Wilt, Bill hell even Jerry Lucas etc got some many rebounds is they would simply grab the ball out of the basket cylinder. To make a shot in the 60's you actually had to make it not have it bounce around a few times on the rim and you also could play much more physical back then so freeing up Big O to play his real game would be HUGE.

I don't understand why Malone's comments get so much coverage. Have people forgotten Karl Malone isn't quite right in the head? Dude has always been a little off. I'm not joking. Listen to any of his interviews or people talk about him. He's not Ron Artest crazy but he's more like "THAT guy".

Yes but also possessions had less value then because of the fast pace. Just as there was little sophistication in defense there was little sophistication in offense. It was just shoot and shoot fast, which is why, along with the fact you could slap balls out of the rim and more physical defense, efficiency in shooting was generally lower then.

He either quit or did something to be suspended, either way that shows a lack of dedication to being on the court. He doesn't help if he is not on the floor.

Why does it matter to anyone what Malone thinks anyway? It's not like he is considered to be an expert on the matter. So what if he would like to try out a different line up then what was used? What's the big deal?
