I don't know why this irks me as much as it does. It's a meaningless museum, and I already know it's going to happen and yet everytime it does I get annoyed. It'll happen with Jeter as well, I'm sure it'll happen with Griffey. Guys where you look and say "is he a HOF yes or no", if your answer is anything other than yes you should put your head under the tire of a moving bus.

That is a great article.

I think it is miss-titled. it sholdn't be about why some one is not unanimous. it should be titled "Why some voters should be banned (or drawn & quartered?)"...

Why not? Gurnick wrote that he won’t vote for any player who “played during the period of PED use.” Not one. So who was on his ballot? Just Jack Morris.

The funny part is. Morris did play in the steroid era. And the amphetamine era. How do we know he didn't use greenies?

At least this writer has asked to be removed from the voting process for next year and beyond.

I'm honestly amazed that this actually bothers people. If I had a vote, I'd vote for 10 guys but if you give nearly 600 people votes, you'll have to accept that some of them are going to be ones you wouldn't make.

Who knows, this guy covered the NL, maybe he knows something about Maddux we don't. In the end it doesn't matter, Maddux will sail in.

I didn't read the article because this nonsense comes out every year. There have been writers that say nobody deserves a unanimous vote which is total bullshit. Some writers shouldn't be given the power just because they belong to the BBWAA

His reasoning is the problem. He stated that he will not vote for anybody that played during the steriods era, then turned around and voted for Jack Morris whose career overlapped Maddux's by 9 years.

I disagree.

There are borderline guys that I wouldn't expect to appear on every ballot, nor should they, but some guys are clear Hall of Famers. There should be no dispute when it comes to a guy like Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, etc.

Well, how about neither of them should've been unanimous b/c they played in a segregated league? Cobb was pretty racist and probably bet on baseball. Wouldn't any of those be valid reasons not to vote for them?

No, I don't think so.

these writers that refuse to vote in players from the steroid era should have done their job better. they should've busted all the players that did PED's if they feel so strongly about it. im sure the people in the 15-30 range would love to visit a hall 20 yrs from now without being able to show their kids the players they grew up watching.

If a baseball writer feels Maddux isn't unanimous first-ballot HOF, he needs to be removed from participation. Period.

No questions about it.

Maddux was an artist.

Especially when his one vote is in favor of a guy that falls well below Hall standards.

So some self-important voter is refusing to vote in anybody from the steroid era. Well if the jackass actually did his job during the era instead of doing the whole Sosa/McGwire circle jerk then maybe things wouldn't have gone so far to begin with. What a hypocrite. And what exactly is the era of PED use anyway? What about greenies? Those are ok in his book? I didn't think much of the over-glorified museum to begin with but this crap takes it down another notch in my head.
