I have heard that rumor. They may regret not going all in on Martinez. A rental is possible too ( ala J.D.) Machado could carry them to the post season like JD did last year. That division is ripe for the picking.

Besides, I wanted to pick a dark horse team for Machado. Being a DB fan, you probably have a better grasp on their finances than I do.

I've heard the Indians linked a few times, though it seems like a long shot.

Obviously, it'd just be a rental, because they're not going to pay him, but still, if it happened, that would be a nasty fucking lineup and probably the best infield in baseball.

Yeah, they wanted JD but weren't willing to go as high as he wanted ($150 million at the start) and I don't think they could have matched the $100 mil he got from the Red Socks due to the Tomas and Grienke contracts. Would have been awesome to keep him but we all knew it wouldn't happen.
