Only one problem, Florida has to agree to it.:D:

I feel like the Canucks may have made a mistake by showing all of their cards too early. Right now it looks like Florida is the only serious contender (maybe Toronto?), so they have all of the leverage.

You may want to stay away from players who played NCAA hockey in the state of Minnesota. You've already got Ballard and Raymond...

Bjugstad would be severe overpayment on the Panthers part, especially considering Luongo's contract. The kid has big time potential & was selected 15th overall in the 2010 draft.

I'd guess the Canucks are waiting on the Doan situation to pan out. If they do get Doan, you'll probably see their demands for Luongo lowered quite a bit. There is no sense in giving away Luongo until you take on salary that makes it worthwhile. A FA signing of Doan could be considered part of the "trade" for Lou as they'd then have the salary cap space. If Doan chooses NY, PIT or PHO, I'd guess that the Canucks keep Lou (as he doesn't seem like he'll be a huge distraction in the locker room and he'd be great insurance for Schneider) until the trade deadline when more possible suitors could be in play. My humble opinion anyway.

It makes sense. I just don't think there's a big demand for Luongo right now. Besides I think the Panthers would be making a mistake by acquiring Luongo. Markstrom deserves a chance to be the #1 guy. Toronto has the bigger need, no question about it. Gillis wants the moon. Both teams should wait him out. I bet he changes his tune come the end of training camp, especially if the Canucks sign Doan.

i agree with you on the list of destinations is small, but you continue to undervalue what he is from your dislike of him for your GM trading him from your team. he is a REALLY good goalie. up there with the best in the league. he has won gold in the olympics (and dont give me the anyone could win with that team... Marty Broduer looked like a chump against the States), world championships and one game away from the Cup. his stats are up there and he continues to play at a high even elite level. Markstrom is going to be good but we dont know how good as he doesnt have enough yet. throwing him to the wolves only hurts him why not put him under someone with the training and work ethic and preparation of a guy like Luongo.

I also dont think that what Gillis is asking for is the moon, I think its high and so it should be. his contract is a NON issue with the way they are given out and some even being traded... if contracts like Jeff Carter can be traded (TWICE) and a guy like Scott Gomez can be traded (not his length of contract but amount) Luongo's contract can and will be moved.

Luongo going to Florida will do nothing but help them short and long term. its a great match. Toronto is better IMO but I think Burke has WAY to big an ego to take on a contract of his length after he spoke out against it as a way to circumvent the cap... EGO way more important than playoffs and winning for Burke in Toronto.

Dont ever count out what a GM can and would do no matter the player or contract. I cant wait for this to be over so we can see the return and then comment on fact rather than rumour
