Now seriously, how about you do the following:

List the "ludicrous" signings.

Research the AAV
Research the GTD
Research the distribution of money; when is the first year you could realistically cut a player?
Compare AAV as a % of the cap

And compare all of that with what you think is a fair comparison, and then we got a thread. How about it.

Garcon, 16 mil guaranteed 1st yr !!!!:scratch: among others...

That is one where just need to see the actual numbers. 16 million guaranteed includes signing bonus, base salary, and then any other up front money they want to pay. Throw in with the 49ers having so much cap space this year makes sense to get the big cap hits out this year and then smaller ones over the next few years. You ahve the money so spend big now

Stupid contracts are going to be the way of 2017. Have you seen the amount of money that teams can (or need) to spend? More crazy contracts coming...

Okay, I'll be the first to admit...

I have no idea what AAV and GTD are.

Most of these contracts are awful

thankfully, ours is among the teams that normally don't get out of control with absurd contracts and bidding wars.

The smart teams don't throw money at marginal talent.

Pretty sure the second one is "Gorilla Transmitted Diseases".

The AAV stands for Average Annual Value

The second is Guaranteed.

So what does the contract average out to every year and how much of it is guaranteed. We see some of these deals that have a huge overall number. Well some teams just put huge numbers at the end of the contract to fluff it up and make it look nice to the player. They can say they signed for $100 million. In reality they maybe only signed for $55 million with the final 2 years being completely cutable.

And that is where the guaranteed comes into play and remember not all guaranteed money is actually guaranteed. An agent will try to show all the different kinds of money that is guaranteed but big chunks of it could just be against injury only and won't be attainable to the player unless they have a serious injury.

As long as most the money is up front, signings like this wont hurt...

Yeah the teams that get themselves in huge trouble are the ones that hand out huge signing bonuses to lower the 1st year cap hit and push the issues to future seasons.

Ya, the Bucs have learned this lesson, even with the Bums we have signed and the few that werent their cap hit never really hurt after the first or second year, has allowed them to move on and still maintain a healthy Cap situation. Which should come in handy when we have to sign our Young guys to 2nd contracts.

Stills is one of the best deep threats in the NFL. The overall money 32M/4 is not ridiculous at all, esp. with the cap rise.

As for Miami, I think the Andre Branch signing is more questionable.
