I don't know Shanny, I fear it could be open season on wandering goalies now...

I'm more concerned about the precedent set by saying that he consulted with the offending player before deciding and made his decision based on a Q&A session about the player's intent.

"I was satisfied with his answers." Really? REALLY?!?

Can this same logic now be applied to headshots and boarding/checks from behind?

No one knows the intent for sure. His head was down. Did he mean to clobber Miller? Likely. Is it definite? No. Do I agree with the Q&A? No. Do I think Shanny already had his mind made up prior to the Q&A? Yes. Do aliens exist? Yes. Did Millers swing of the stick factor into the decision? Possibly. Do I think that this action is comparable to headshots? Nope, not at all. Millers head was not targeted at all whether Looch's hit was intentional or accidental. Guten tag.

but that's not the rule as it stands now.
that has been very clearly stated in the thread.

maybe only Thomas.

fwiw, I agree with no suspension.
its a minor or a major as written in the rules. he was assessed a penalty.
he SHOULD have gotten an ass-whooping as well, but that's on Buffalo.

I didn't see the game, but have seen the replay and read up on it.

To me this (the bold part) is the most disturbing part of the whole thing.

I'm the collision could have been avoided or at least not as severe, but someone at sometime during that game should have challenged Lucic.

The was the 1st meeting of the season, 5 to go.

Can't wait to see Jerry 'King Kong' Korab back in the Sabres lineup...

This answers the age old question. Miller IS powerful enough to create an object that he himself cannot control.

I hope they make a rule change so everybody is happy when there are 3rd string goalies playing all over the league. It won't matter to me, Everybody will then have a goalie as shitty as our "Star of the week" goalie...

Yeah, I'm surprised so many people are in support of this open season thing. Goalies have a different role than skaters.

The problem is that as soon as you change the rule to allow contact outside the crease, people will push the boundary. What happens when the goalie comes out to challenge a shot (out of his crease), and lets up a rebound. Can you smoke him? Is that finishing your check? It would be fucking hell to write the rules that govern this, and nobody would understand them anyway.

It has nothing to do with NHL pussyfication. Sometimes you make something illegal because it would be too complicated to regulate otherwise. This is one of those cases.

You are most certainly correct. Stay in your crease.

Good for Lucic, everything worked out just fine for him and the Bruins in the long run.

Lucic got to intentionally run down a defensless goalie, who was playing the puck, and only got a 2 minute penalty in the process.

The hit not only took Miller out, but it also led to no one on the Sabres going after Lucic in retaliation, which even Lucic admitted, he was waiting for. The hit also lit a fire under the Bruins, which turned the game around for them on Saturday, and led to a dominating win.

Here's hoping a situation like this will give Lucic the courage to perhaps fight someone like Colton Orr without hiding behind the ref in the process?

Overall, as a fan, you can't help but try to defend your team or their actions on or off the ice. But as a Sabres fan, I'm finding it harder and harder to do that, and it disgusts me. Why should I try to defend a team that clearly shows no interest in defending themselves or their own?

Does nobody else see a bit of irony that Bruins fans are defending a concussion-causing, slightly late, high hit on a unexpectant franchise player?

Under the open-season rules, would they be allowed to come out of the crease to cut down angles on shots? Or could you bodycheck them a split-second after they make a save?

I wonder if the Bruins will play Thomas or Rask on Nov 23?

either way, I really do want to see this play out to its logical conclusion:
Patrick Kaleta absolutely atomizing the goalie on the first shift of the game. No apologies, and the rule clearly states in or out of the crease, so run him right through the fucking net if you have to. take your two minutes, and move on.

the shift after that, put the next goalie onto IR too.

Then Shanny gives him a call the next day and asks him if he meant to do it.
