AUSTIN and COLUMBUS are the only major cities that I can think of offhand that deliver an urban collegiate football experience with the 100K sellouts.

Most urban colleges like Georgia Tech, Maryland, Miami, Pitt, and others have smaller stadiums and attendance issues.

It just seems the most successful stadiums are a good distance away from the cities.

You could make an argument w Neyland Stadium ( UT Vols) in Knoxville.

Uhh, Illinois isn't built to be loud either. It's mostly open.

But it is: 1. Steep, 2. Its upper decks are located very close to the field, 3. The open side of the field is the side where the students sit (ie their noise is not being directed towards the open side, it is being directed towards the three sides that are much taller than it is, so all the student noise stays in the stadium), and 4. There are solid brick walls everywhere.

All of that, when combined with its compactness, makes it really loud.

Our away crowd is more intimidating than our home crowd due to the fact that our stadium is 65% old folks who just keep renewing their season tickets.

Can't stand how quiet neb home crowd is. F the old heads if you don't wanna get loud don't come.

Sad people fear our road warriors then home crowd.

I guess I'll have to take your word for it, or imagine what it might sound like if Illinois had a decent football team and fans.
