They've only met 35 times total, and the current annual streak is only at 12 games.

They only played 4 times between 1899 and 1942. (4 times in 43 years)

They only played 2 times between 1943 and 1978. (2 times in 35 years)

It has never been a true year in and year out rivalry with other breaks coming in 1983/1984, 1995/1996, and 2000/2001.


Those numbers wouldn't put that series in the top 40 of college footballs all-time rivalries.

It's completely manufactured.

The ND/Mich "long running rivalry" is completely manufactured by the two schools and ESPN. It's food for the ignorant who don't take the time to look up how accurate the info is. It's probably not even top 100.

Nobody cares, RA, nobody cares. The ND-UM game is huge because both programs are blue bloods. And yes, ND canceled the series because it was not as historic as our other rivalries.
