I thought growing old would take longer
I wasn't looking at the city limits. Milwaukee is 39th on that list. That is pretty small. Looks like Buffalo would be the only MSA that is smaller in the U.S. among NHL teams.
I'm not saying they wouldn't be successful or a great market, I was just noting some considerations (population and competition). Another is that I would guess Milwaukeeans support the Hawks, so if they are already buying their gear, watching them, etc., it seems unlikely to me the NHL would put a franchise there. Just my opinion.
I agree about supporting the Hawks. I said that in an earlier post. As for their number on the list, they're right behind Nashville, ahead of Buffalo and Raleigh all with hockey teams. It might take a while to build a fan base, and maybe it would fail, but my point is that hockey is big in Wisconsin and MIGHT be able to support a team. Now granted hockey is the national sport in Canada, but only Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver have a bigger metropolitan area than Milwaukee. Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg are all smaller.
