It starts this year, 7 years $126 mil which is $18 mil per year, he is worth it too. Cutler and Romo got about the same $ and he is better then both. Love it, 7 years of a stud QB

Wow. I hate this move with a passion. The 49ers are capable of winning this year with middle ground QB play, I was hoping we'd continue to go on that route. Please I really want Kaep is traded in 2 seasons

He is 26 years old, he is the future, its $18 mil per year, just what we all thought he was going to get in the end, and he deserves it, the guy is just scratching the surface of how good he can be.

Really surprised the thread hasn't lost its mind yet

I think it's a significant overpay but if he can start reaching his potential then it will be worth it. Fingers crossed that this all works out but I do feel a little sick right now (no pun intended)

I think that it seams like its a bit much now, however how are we going to see this deal in two years? My bet is that it's going to look pretty good.

I like the deal. It's about what we thought was going to happen. He's young and only getting better. I agree with schefter tweet below as well. We got ours in first.

Colin Kaepernick deal will impact potential deals for Cam Newton, Andy Dalton, Alex Smith this year; Luck, RGIII, Russell Wilson next year.

The deal like I said is going to look cheap over the next two years as all those players sans Dalton and Smith will command more.

The team is clearly paying him what they believe he'll become not for what he is now and clearly they firmly believe it.

I am ok with the deal not extremely happy with it. Felt Kap is overpaid about 10 million but if say 3 years the cap is around 185 million dollars I think that the deal will work out fine.

I called 18 million and I was right. Im a Kap fan and feel this is a little much for a QB doesn't hasn't won a super bowl. I do feel he is one of the best in the league but I was hoping for 16 million a year because he did say he would be a team player but I guess the agent won here.

The good news is Wilson will want at least 20 million a year for winning a Super Bowl so seattle should get hit a little harder.

This is very true. Better to do it first. Other will now at least match it or up it.

Higher than I wanted them to have to pay him, but oh well. Now it’s time to win a Super Bowl Kaep!

Commentators keep saying it is a top10 deal, but haven't really placed it other than that. When you consider that 3-5 more QB's will get paid next season, I don't see Kap's deal as a terrible amount at all. It really does fall into place about where it should be...

How do you figure?
""San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has always wanted to be thought of as one of the league’s best quarterbacks, and now, he’s going to be paid like one. According to multiple media reports, the 49ers and Kaepernick have agreed to terms on a multiyear contract extension that will tie him to the franchise through 2020. It’s a six-year extension, averaging over $21 million per year ($126 million total), and with $61 million guaranteed — the highest guaranteed money ever for any NFL player.""

I don't understand this. Here is a guy who has completely melted down at the end of the two biggest games in which he has played and they act like he is the second coming of Joe Montana.

You need to read more, the deal starts this year so it's a total of 7 years at $126 which is $18 per year on the dot. Most of us thought he would get $17-20 per year. Good deal for both sides

Because it's an extension not a new deal so this year is included. He will get a raise this year because of the extension, but the extension only adds 6 years. So it's a 6 year extension but the $126 is spread out over 7.

He is also the same guy that has won more road playoff games then Montana and young
