Re: those de-escalators, though, I sure hope the language is that he has to be named as one of the primary QBs on the pro bowl roster, and not like the fifth or sixth guy after the SB quarterback and injury shake out. Remember that year when seven or eight AFC QBs "made" the pro bowl? Just ridiculous.

He has to make All-Pro, not Pro Bowl:
"Kaepernick can halt the de-escalation by taking, in any year of the deal, 80 percent of the snaps and if: (1) the 49ers appear in the Super Bowl; or (2) Kaepernick is named a first-team or second-team All-Pro."

Great breakdown of the contract. Its really a good contract. Team friendly. 49ers can almost back out whenever. Kap will have to prove himself almost every year.

wow, agree it is a good contract from the 49ers in cap management view.

DID want something less than $18M/year, cause of a little concern with his passing skills. but didn't think they could get the annual numbers this low?

Yeah, realized that later this morning. Those are very tough benchmarks to hit, especially All-Pro in this offense. If he hits them - and I think the SB is the only one he has a realistic shot at in the next couple years, he's earned the contract.

I never dreamed the deal would be that team friendly. I take back any fears I had, that has all been alleviated. This front office is amazing.

Can't help but think Kap really screwed himself by signing this deal. Or maybe he really does love the team and wants to prove he's worth the contract.

Love it.

He's betting on himself. You gotta like that.

Gotta give major props to Kap. He said it wasn't all about the money, that he wanted the team to be able to continue to build around him. Then there were rumors about him demanding $20 million, and a lot of folks railing about what an asshole he was. He put his money where his mouth is, very literally. Took less money, bet on himself, allowed for the team to keep some (not all, but that's not going to happen except with a rookie outside the first round) pieces around him. Love what it says about where his head and heart are. Now I just hope he's living in the film room, practicing his dropbacks between cuts.

Haters are quite on the NFL board. They were talking smack all day and today when the details came out nothing. Most of them were cowboy fans, so I can understand why they hate football life they are stuck with Tony "INT" Romo. LOL

If it was Dallas fans, there's a Honey Boo Boo marathon on Directv so they are probably pleasuring themselves to that hot action.

They're just mad that they have zero chance in the season opener against us.

Brilliant. Maybe the new standard on how qb contracts are written.

I'm not sure many QB's are willing to risk million "betting" on themselves...

I do think this contract will create conflict with future players who are due new contracts...

I really don't bother much at all over there anymore. Every once in awhlle I will post there, but when that whole Kaepernick bashing started over the Miami incident, I just steered clear of the general board.
