WVU had 2 good linebackers this season and had a patchwork for the 3rd slot.
1. Kwiatkoski led the team with 96 tackles and TFL with 10.5
2. Tonkery had a breakout senior year. 3rd on team in tackles with 62 and TFL with 8. Led the linebackers with 2.5 sacks and added in 4 pass break ups and 1 INT.
3. Golson started 4 games at the 3rd linebacker before moving to DE, Muldrow started the next 7 games before losing his job to Petteway who started 1. Bruce started the 1 game that Tonkery missed.

WVU has its best LB in Kwiatkoski coming back but needs to solidify the other two spots. Here is WVU’s depth.
1. Kwiatkosi r-sr.
2. Barber r-sr. Sat out this season with a knee injury suffered at the end of 2013. Would be a big boost if he can come back as he was the 3rd leading tackler in 2013. But he was still having problems with his knee in September of this year.
3. Petteway r-sr. Really came on late in the season. Finished 6th in tackles with 37 despite only starting 1 game and he was kicked out of that game. Not a great pass rusher but is athletic.
4. Muldrow r-sr. Started 7 games but he only had 28 tackles. Leading returning “sack artist” with 1.5. He is fast but just not big enough at about 200 pounds and is a liability when teams run at him.
5. Bruce sr. As a freshman he had 90 some tackles, then 40 some last year. Had just 15 this season. He did start the Maryland game and had 5 tackles, 2 for a loss, and a pass breakup. Graduate transfer candidate.

6. Arndt r-jr. A walk-on from Martinsburg that played 9 games in 2013 when he was the scout team player of the year and all 12 games this season. Finished with 8 tackles. More of a special teams ace.
7. Benton r-so. 2014 was a little disappointing. He had a good spring and fall camp. Then the season started. He played in all 12 games, mostly on special teams, but had just 6 tackles.
8. Preston so. Made just 2 tackles but played as a true freshman. Played 8 games total including the final 5. Already has good size at 230.

9. Walters r-jr. Only played in 5 games. Made 2 tackles. Got into 12 games in 2013 on special teams but only had 3 tackles. Buried on the depth chart. Transfer candidate.
10. Christian r-so. Played 2 games. No stats.

WVU currently has 1 LB commit for this year.
1. David Long. I love the way he plays. A downhill tackler. He drives you back. But he is not that tall and may not be able to add a bunch of weight. He is somewhere around 5-11, 200. But since WVU plays the 3-3-5 he could be moved to safety because he plays like Joseph.

Agree with Slaton10. Need a LB with the capacity to rush the QB and rely on stopping the run.
