Even Monahan admits that TV ratings mean nothing and shows how silly your argument above is.,

“(Monahan) said, first and foremost, that just straight-up TV ratings isn’t the way the world works anymore,” Homa recalled on Tuesday during his news conference before the Players Championship. “If you think about the Waste Management, as he put it, there’s so much fanfare. … and this is corny, but all the celebrities and people who aren’t in the game of golf intimately that are out there and sharing it via social media or with their friends is boosting not only the PGA Tour but golf in general, which I think is great. So that was quite interesting.

Max Homa: Dang. Monahan probably did not want to hear that.

Homa, however, believes that more buzz-worthy players will rise up the ranks of the professional game soon enough.

“I guess one thing that I've kind of settled on is, although some of the most interesting players in golf are playing on a different Tour, I don't think that that, that those are the last of the interesting players that will come through this Tour. I think that there will be other interesting aspects or other interesting characters to come play through here. They might be on it now, they might not be. They might be coming up in a bit, in a year or two,” Homa said.

Cam is certainly interesting and a phenomenal golfer.

Brooks was a stone cold killer in majors. That was certainly interesting. He's a shell of his former self though (both mentally and physically). I actually liked Brooks (even when people thought he was an asshole). To me...he was always brutally honest about things.

Bryson was a novelty. He was also incredibly annoying and a crybaby. His body has fallen apart (not a surprise).

Reed was simply hated by everyone. There is a place for that though. Villains have worth.

On the flip side of Reed, Varner was loved by everyone.

I enjoyed watching Niemann play.

DJ (as talented as he is) is a huge dud for me. Ancer is a dud. Casey...dud.

Phil was my favorite for a long time. Always rooted for him against Tiger. Most of that was my desire to root for the "underdog". I always rooted for Tom Watson against Nicklaus back in the day. There's no denying that Phil is a huge douche though.

As far as the quality of golf being played, the PGA tour has never been better. I do get where people are coming from when they say it's not as interesting though.

Reed and Koepka were my two favorites because they were stone cold killers in the big events especially Majors and Ryder Cups. I love their "Me against the world" attitude. I love Cam because he stopped McIlroy from winning the British Open last year. I am so thankful for that. Was never much of a fan of DeChambeau but when I go next Friday to the event in Tucson you can bet I'm going to follow him a bit just to see those drives.
Dustin Johnson is still one of the top players in the world; I really like him. I think he made something like 30 mil last year on LIV; dude can play

there will always be competition in the PGA. It not like they lost players to LIV and now one player is dominating the game.

The product the PGA is putting out has not lost anything. It is still as good as it has ever been.

new players will step up and challenge for wins...that's just how it goes.

I disagree.

but you seem to like the drama more as much as you like the game being played.

I want freedom for players to play wherever they want whenever they want. The constant LIV bashing from the PGA and the pundits it employs on golf channel gets old and makes me not want to watch anymore. I still watch the golf at times but don't bother with shows like Golf Central anymore. If I want political diatribe I'll watch FOX news and Mr. Trump.

I'm curious when you thought the height of golf's "excitement" level was.
The early Woods era before he became a public asshole and then the Big Jack and Arnie era. The ErnieEls, Mickelson and Duvall era
It’s all just bomb and gouge now

Watching Hayden Buckley jar one on 17 this morning was pretty cool. Exciting also to see McIlroy double bogey his first hole, that was cool But I am stunned at watching the list of no names go across the ticker at the bottom of the screen

That was literally the era that birthed bomb and gouge....

No. That is incorrect. It was sometime in the middle of Woods' era when they started "Tiger Proofing" courses. That's what brought on the era of Bomb and gouge

August was "Tiger Proofed" from 2000-2006.

Phil, Duval, and Ernie were in the top 15 rankings together from 1998-2003.

They were the epitome of the bomb and gouge era. How are you supposedly that good at golf and know so little about its history?

Not when you claim to have the strongest field in history. Being generous, I counted 27 names out of 145 that the casual golf would know. Its not so much that the players are sub-par its that there is no longer any name recognition on the PGA anymore. That's why I think so many are bored with the PGA. And it only going to get worse with the Haves shutting out the Have Nots from the big events next year

Nope. You are still wrong. Bomb and gouge began in the McIlroy, Dustin Johnson era and went into Thomas' era and now all players play that way. But its generally assumed that bomb and gouge began around 2006
