Built it so they all work together as one defense, not just 11 great players.

Here you go, this is my unit...

DE - Reggie White
DE - Bruce Smith
DT - Merlin Olsen
DT - Allen Page
MLB - Ray Lewis
OLB - Lawrence Taylor
OLB - Jack Ham
S - Ronnie Lott
S - Ed Reed
CB - Michael Haynes
CB - Rod Woodson

You're on the clock sports fan.

The only player I would switch out is Haynes for Dick Lane or Mel Blount

@TeddyJackEddy

Great squad.

I've got a few repeats but enough difference to post it. I agree that Deion was not as complete as Rod Woodson and Mike Haynes, but I'll modernized my team.

DE...Charles Haley
DT...Reggie White
DT...Joe Greene
DE...Bruce Smith

LB...Derrick Thomas
LB...Lawrence Taylor

FS...Dick Anderson
SS...Ronnie Lott
CB...Mel Blount
CB...Rod Woodson
SlotCB...Deion Sanders

I would play those 11 the whole game and dare you to run on me.

Not sure if scheme is figured in this equation but LT and Thomas were both rushers, but I see what you are saying. LT is the greatest and Thomas was a beast.

OH MAN you gotta have Earl Thomas and Troy Polamalu back there... Imagine that combo at FS and SS! I'd start there and then build forward...

Lane would have to change his game to stay on the field today.
He was famous for clotheslining opponents.

I went with White and Smith at DE in a 4-3 because both were great against the run and rushing the passer.
I see how playing Reggie inside could be effective though.

Ham had 32 career ints just dropping into coverage when needed. He was good enough in coverage to play safety.

I watched a lot of Steeler games from the 70s/80s era and I wouldn't want to short change Ham, but idt he was good enough in coverage to play safety...both he and Lambert were really good at getting good depth in their drops and were able to get picks from the underneath coverage.

Both were definitely edge rushers but they dropped sometimes...either way it would be hard to take them off the field.

You don't have to tackle if the wr never catches the ball.

The problem is that sometimes the player with the ball isn't the one that you're covering, but you still have to tackle him.

He was in his best position for sure. It depends on what was asked of a SS whether he could have played it at a high level. He could cover as well as a Steve Atwater type in my opinion.

Deion would be criticized if he played today for staying on the left side of the field.

Haynes was the best in man coverage I've ever seen.
He perfected bump and run, he was the most efficient CB ever, he truly shadowed receivers' every move.
Only first team all-pro twice.

Charles Woodson was 4x first team all-pro and played in an era where passing was more common and started almost 100 more football games.

I figure that counts for something.

Rod >>>> Charles

Fact.

There numbers and accolades are almost identical and they played nearly the same amount of regular season and postseason games. Their int's, TD's, FR's, and tackles were basically the same. However, Charles could get to the QB and put up sacks. But what really separates the two is prime Charles was better that prime Rod Woodson.

Agree...Atwater was more of an enforcer...loved to lay the lumber....even Lott who was switched from CB to SS because he wasn't the best in coverage.

Keughley may be the best LB I've seen in coverage in a long time.

Actually, Lott was exceptional in coverage (voted an All Pro)...he was moved primarily because both Carlton Williamson and Dwight Hicks' play at safeties started to drop off noticeably in the mid 1980's. He certainly made his mark at both safety positions however.

Perhaps I skimmed over it, because I didn't see him listed, but I think you can start making a case for JJ Watt in an all time discussion.
