I like this mostly for Jim Bob Cooter sticking around on offense. He helped that offense do what it was supposed to do when Joe Lombardi couldn't.

I'm not putting any stock into that.
The Lions only beat one team with a winning record in the second half of the season, but couldn't get it done at home against the same team under JBC. What better way for the NFL to shut the Lions fan base up than to let the Lions win in Lambeau to end a long losing streak there.
Running three straight running plays with a backup RB (for zero to negative yardage on his last five attempts) to give the Packers one last chance to win the game. Really? a Backup? The Lions only needed a first down to take a Victory knee to end the game and use their Backup that didn't look like they were trying to get a 1st down. And then we get the Officials to extend the game with one more play for a heroic finish.

Only 9 quarterbacks in the history of the NFL have winning records vs winning teams. Never forget that.

Joe Namath only beat 12 winning teams in his entire career. Seriously.

I thought Lombardi got fired the Monday after the KC beating?

6-2 without him. With losses at St Louis and home against GB. But I'll be honest, I didn't really watch much of that game. Too early, fucked up still from night before. (That and I didn't care what a 1-7 team was doing really.) Prince Charles could've been coaching and I wouldn't have noticed.

I wonder how many games Caldwell will cost us taking his foot off the gas when we're in the lead next season. I was still hoping for Linehan or McDaniels hell i would have rather seen us roll the dice on Cooter or Austin promoted over keeping Caldwell and his commitment to the run lol

In the final game Caldwell/Cooter threw the ball late on a 3rd and 3 with a 4 point lead. That decision won the game. It was aggressive and and out of the Lions' character. Maybe he learned something about controlling your own destiny.

No doubt Caldwell coasted in the Chargers/Packers games. I think most of that was conservative play calling, but I can't help but think the fact that we had a young/bad o-line and haven't had a true every down back in forever. We can't give a horse the ball 8 times in a drive and at least convert those conservative drives into FGs.

Our best running back, Riddick, is more of a receiver. Joique never breaks a tackle and goes for 50. Abdullah is too tiny and if your give him 15+ carries he'll put one on the ground. The OL was much better later in the year. Swanson, Tomlinson, Ola, etc. all made strides in maturing and jelling. That kept Stafford cleaner, but still we have no RB to lean on.

I think the Lions have to keep looking for a bigger, faster, jump-cutting true horse. Then Caldwell's conservative tendencies won't hurt us as much. We don't have Brady so we need a better running game.

Also, the refs don't call 15 yarders for every time Stafford gets a boo boo, to keep drives alive. Unlike every time some defensive player touches Brady.

With Sheldon White now being fired and seeing what BQ has done with anything and err'thing from the old regime. IMO he kept JC because he wanted to keep him. Seems Martha has given him full power to run the franchise as he sees fit. IMO he was not told or forced to keep him.

Always good news when the Lions pick off old scabs like that from the Millen/Mayhew regime's.

I like JBC a lot, but getting manhandled by the Rams was unsettling. I think one of our guys plays there now.

Are you talking about the FA that had two tackles and one assist? An offensive line that gave up 44 sacks last season, but none to him on 66% of the snaps but Aaron Donald had 3 sacks on just 63% of the snaps?

He does have to answer to Martha, but I think it had a lot to do with Martha and the players wanting JC here. Rod Wood basically said JC has to have a winning season to fulfill his 4 year contract.

Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady both look like average QB's when their not getting the calls from the officials. I guess performance levels are better when you know you'll be getting calls.

I'm talking about the guy who played great D all year for the Rams in rotation. Sacks aren't the top indicator of DT play. I guess being 2nd in the NFL for QB hurries in 14 before that injury doesn't matter.

Why you keep mentioned AD I have no idea.

QB hurries in 2015 after Fairley was injured!!

Aaron Donald is ranked 72nd with 13 in 16 games.
Haloti Ngata is ranked 85th with 12 in 14 games.
Nick Fairley is ranked 182nd with 6 in 15 games.
