The #Lions announce that Jim Caldwell is staying as head coach. Officially now just one opening left.

Hugely disappointed, but I support it. Hopefully this means JBC and Austin stay too. I'm all for continuity based on the 6-2 finish.

I thought that was pretty obvious to everyone after listening to Quinn's introduction. He said flat out that he had to find out if Caldwell was the kind of guy he could work with. Firing him after that basically makes you look worse as a new GM than it does him. But it's still a huge slap in the face to Caldwell. And he's a guy that if nothing else has put in a lot of time and met a lot of guys around the league.

I don't think he's the long term plan, and he didn't say anything like that. Basically all they said was that he wasn't fired. Yet.

See, I got the opposite impression. I thought he distanced himself from JC in that presser with the whole "respect " card. Biggest issue I have now is who's team is this? BQ? Or Martha?

Not excited to have Caldwell back, but at least the offense and defense will get to work with the same coordinators and hopefully progress in the upcoming year

That's basically my thoughts, he is a good leader but a terrible in game coach. He can succeed with a good staff in place..

OOOR maybe not...

The Lions have fired senior personnel executive Scott McEwen, their longest tenured scout & former director of college scouting

I'm pleased for now, actually. It shows me something that Quinn is willing to not play "hero gm" and bring in all new people. The staff, particularly on offense, along with the offense itself, showed enough improvement over the 2nd half of the season to warrant a shot at a full year, in my opinion. If they stumble again next year, then blow it up. But I expect them to charge out of the gate if everyone is healthy.

Caldwell isn't a horrible head coach. Its not like anyone the Lions were going to hire was going to walk in and be much better. The learning curve of hiring an inexperienced head coach alone could cost the lions next year. I like this move. If he fails to make the playoffs next year there is no question he is done. Pretty much any hire would have been a lateral at best move... and quite possibly could have done more damage than keeping Caldwell can do.
