I didnt give Stafford a pass TP. lol

Seem like you and I were selling him the hardest around mid-season.

Then he had to go finish like he did and make us both look like total assholes for insisting that he was playing like an elite, top-5 QB. At the time he was, but now I've become concerned that it was just a mirage. I've been 1000% pro-Stafford since he's been here, but the comments he made totally blowing off the idea of working with a specialist are a huge red flag for me. The great QBs (Manning, Brady, Luck (not great yet)) work with these guys even after a good season, so the fact that Stafford refuses to consider it after a terrible season comes across as an indication that he's going to turn out to be too cocky to ever live up to his enormous potential...

Still disagree with you 'bout the o-line, though!

Stafford does well when he sticks to the script. When he starts freestyling it leads to all the turnovers. Unfortunately in game 9 versus the Cowboys his freestyling got us a critical victory and that led to the eventual implosion in the last 7 weeks. Once he was able to have success just chucking the ball and hoping Megatron comes down with it, he basically starting doing that almost every game. Eventually the turnovers came and Megatron got the shit kicked out of him in the process. His career may very well be shortened now because of all of unnecessary contact he is getting the last 2.5 years from Stafford leaving him out to dry.

Here's a snippet from this morning's Mlive story on our o-line coach:

Raiola was the NFL's best center, according to ProFootballFocus. Rookie Larry Warford is the second-best right guard, and is one of just two full-time guards to not allow a sack all season.

Didn't realize Riaola graded out as the best center in the league... definitely adds some credibility to my assertion, imo.

Now let's see TrustMe explain how and why he knows better than PFF, and that Riaola was "maybe a top 10 center, but certainly not top 5, and calling him THE best is going overboard."

I might have even just saved him the trouble of having to post...

There are no facts that support the insane thought that the Lions had a top 5 O line. Just stop it and stop fucking up the Schwartz is fired thread with your homer bullshit.

I know, Stafford made us eat crow, but I still contribute his bad play to something else other than just playing bad. He wasn't playing really good and just suddenly start being garbage. What should he have said to the media about working with a specialist when everyone is putting the blame squarely on his shoulders? I think the average person would dismiss the idea too if in the same situation. He is cocky, which I think some of it had a part in his late struggles, but maybe that's also something he's picked up from his coaches. Maybe he needs to be humbled a bit. They were 6-3 wnd he was playing outstanding, and then all hell broke loose. That should be a learning experience for him.

I'll give you a top 10 Oline I guess but Stafford is a major part of why the team rarely gives up sacks. When yoh have a revamped line like this, I would assume that part of the scheme would be to play out of Shotgun and get rid of the ball. To me, its funny how things got a little worse for the whole offense over the last six games though. Bush had lots of running room early in the season, but as it progressed, he was getting killed, Imo. Bell, broke so many tackles after contact, its hard to gage how much the line helped him. Even though they played good, I still saw plenty of break-downs along the line, all year.

I guess you missed the post where I said you were right. I agree -- Detroit has the best OL in the NFL. I stand corrected.

I guess Detroit also had the best OL in the NFL last year too, as they averaged 4.1 YPC as a team in 2012 (compared to 4.0 in 2013), while ranked at the top in sack to pass ratio.

Amazing how a team with the best OL in back to back years can be 11-21, when you don't even take into consideration what else they are the best in the NFL at.

Lovie would be a great choice. I can do without Tampa 2 defense though

No to Lovie! Can't stand the Tampa 2. I don't have any major reservations about Lovie other than the Tampa 2 and the fact he trusted Martz!. I would like to see the Lions get an aggressive Offensive mind if they go that side of the ball with their next coach. If they go defense still would like to see Quinn he is interviewing wit Cleveland.

I wish Reid would have come available this year!

I'm really getting fired up about Lovie. I know Wisenhunt is the public winner, but the more you think about it, the Tampa 2 is a lot closer to the 4-3 than anything Wisenhunt runs on defense (3-4 in AZ, SD and Pitt). Maybe Lovie keeps Gunny? The D-line alone is reason enough to be excited about a Lovie led defense. If he can coach our corners to be the ball hawks the Bears are/were, then we're in business.

Conspiracy theory -

Rumor says last year Lions (Mayhew) wanted to fire Schwartz...

Last year Lovie loses job after going 10-6....doesn't interview with anyone...

Lovie is all of a sudden interviewing with Lions now that Schwartz is fired.

Did Mayhew have this whole thing brewing a year in the making?

Stafford was not under a ton of pressure on a lot of his bad throws.

Agree 100% Not just referring to INT's that were thrown. WHile he changes throwing angles every other throw, there is no consistentcy in mechanics. Too many over/under throws, behind/ in front throws. That is not all on the Oline, scheme, or any other excuse people are using.

I think Mayhew likes Whisenhut. But thats just my opinion based on things he has said and done in the past. Whisenhut changed the culture in Arizona and that was addressed. He was a prior head coach and has been to the Superbowl as a Coordinator and Head Coach. The Lions interviewed Russ Grimm who was on Whisenhuts staff and liked him, just not enough to make him head coach. And Mayhew wants to keep the 4-3, my guess is with press corners.

I think Lovie coming out and saying he would bring Tedford with him was a preeemptive statement to assure Detroit Martz would not be his O-Coordinator. I just think Mayhew or maybe Ford Jr want KW.

Whisenhut was fired last year as well and could fit in like Lovie into your conspiracy theory. But again I am reading tea leaves and it's not my choice. I still want Quinn from Seattle. But he will not get it as he doesn't meet the requirements I keep hearing about.

Good Article in News or Free Press that talked about as pressure increased on Stafford his mechanics basically became erratic and the more he pressed the more mistakes he made. That is why having a QB coach is so important. A guy to help Stafford work through the inconsistencies.

I would love Wisenhunt or Lovie. Top 2 BY FAR of any available out there. I think they both possess the leadership and experience Mayhew is looking for. Lovie gets the slight edge because of scheme. Suh, Fairely and Ansah don't fit the 3-4 as well as they do the 4-3/Tampa 2 look, and Tedford solves the OC problem. Be great to see what he could do at the pro level with Stafford.

And I love the story. Lovie back in the North vs. the Bears twice a year and another crack at the Packers this time with a real O. Writes itself.

Wis took a job, Lovie didn't even interview. Instead, he had all year to put together his new staff just in time for his Lions interview.

I am thinking Whisenhut would find a coordinator to make the 4-3 work, but going to the 3-4 isn't a deal breaker for me, I think the Lions could be due for a change.

Fairley as Nose, Suh at one End, Ansah at the other, draft Khalid Mack in the first round and you have a pretty good start.

Now I am just wasting time guesstamating!

Khalid Mack

My personal favorite kid in the draft, and hope the Lions draft him. Watched him dominate tOSU with absolutely no other talent around him.
