I have heard nothing on Taylor Deckers 5th year option either. Eerily quiet. You could be right. I have also seen some mocks where Quinnen Williams falls to us. That would be a no brainer. Best pro ready player in the draft IMO.

BQ usually waits until the final week before he picks up the 5th year option. The due date this year is May 7th. I just read the following link today.

Lions haven’t decided whether to pick up Taylor Decker’s fifth-year option

PHOENIX -- The Detroit Lions still haven’t decided what to do with left tackle Taylor Decker.

The former first-round pick is headed into the final year of his rookie deal, but the Lions have a team-held option for 2020. And with five week left until the deadline to pick it up, they still haven’t figured out whether to pick it up.

“That’s something we have to decide upon I think about a week after the draft,” general manager Bob Quinn said. “That’s about a May 7 deadline, so no decision yet.”

Quinn’s decision to wait out the deadline should not be interpreted as indecisiveness. He’s handled fifth-year options the same way throughout his tenure in Detroit, waiting until the final week to pick it up with both Ezekiel Ansah and Eric Ebron. The only first-round pick who hasn’t gotten the fifth year under Quinn is Laken Tomlinson, who was traded to San Francisco before Quinn had to make that decision.

1 Jonah Williams

I think this guy is a sleeper selection at #8 for the Lions. Everyone is talking about defense here but I wouldn't overlook this guy being the pick.
If you can start at LT for the crimson tide as a true freshman. You have to be a bad ass and an elite football player.

Saban was going to put Williams at Center in 2018 but he didn't have any player who could replace him at LT.

I would take an easy pass on J. Williams at any point. He's a good to very good technician but he lacks in power, punch and with speed type defensive players. and I'm a bama homer to a certain degree.

If BC OG Lidstrom or Miss St C/OG Elgton Jenkins were available at #43 or wherever we end up in 2nd round, I'd like to see either one of them drafted.

I could get on board with @Old Lion favorite of OT/C Dalton Risner also.

I'm also a huge fan of NC-St LG Terronne Prescod who should still be available in 5th or possibly 6th round.

The 2020 WR Class Could Truly Be Historic | The Draft Network

I'll be the ultimate Bama homer here and would most definitely take either Jeudy or Ruggs but the former would be my preference.

Furthermore, It is known that the smarter GM's do pay attention to what players are available for the next years draft when considering the difference between two draft classes.

There was an article I read today (article was published a few days or a week ago) where BQ talked about this and what players would be available next year in FA (which he starts compiling that list in early September).

Rotoworld fantasy sports news and analysis for NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, CFB, Golf, EPL and NASCAR

Amani Hooker DB, Iowa Hawkeyes

NFL Media's Lance Zierlein said Iowa S Amani Hooker could become a "plus starter" if he lands in the "perfect scheme."
Hooker (5'11/210) is best-suited as a "robber" and man defender against tight ends, according to Zierlein, but the analyst questions if he has the ability to cover wideouts in man because he's not "twitchy." At the NFL Scouting Combine, Hooker ran a modest 4.48-second 40-yard dash, but he did record a nice 37-inch vertical. Since he's not a great athlete, Hooker is expected to be a mid-round selection.

BB_72; LOL at Zierlein claiming Hooker ran a modest 4.48 forty. That's pretty Got Damn fast for a Safety and is a better time than nearly half of the CB class in this draft (I'm going off memory on the latter statement of mine but still Zierlein is fucking nuts and hypocritical like many of the media types).

He's Stafford v2.0 with not quite as much arm power but it's close.

I don't think he is nearly on the level of Stafford. I watched him play a couple times randomly on Saturdays and he looked whack.

Drew Lock QB, Missouri Tigers

NFL Media's Daniel Jeremiah believes Missouri QB Drew Lock would be a great fit with the Washington Redskins.
The Redskins own the 15th overall pick, but they'd likely have to trade up to acquire Lock (6'3/228), especially if the Broncos interest in him is real. Jeremiah argues that Lock has as much upside of anyone in the class, largely in part to his powerful arm and plus athletic ability. Opinions have ranged from Matthew Stafford-like upside to Day 2 flier. The primary worry is his accuracy, specifically on short to intermediate passes. FiveThirtyEight's Josh Hermsmeyer gave Lock a 1% chance of averaging 7.1 yards per attempt because of his model's reliance on accuracy metrics.

BB_72; I must have stolen this thought of Jeremiah's. Nope. Can't be. I posted my opinion on Friday the 22nd and this came out March 23rd. However, I did Not expound on Lock's similarity to Stafford regarding, specifically, his inaccuracy on short to intermediate passes.

huh. :noidea:

Ranking the top 7 remaining needs for the Lions this offseason

Wide receiver

Tight end

Outside linebacker/EDGE

Backup QB

Running back

Right guard

Cornerback

BB_72; I sure as hell wouldn't rank these needs in order but I get his narrative. It would have to be value at whatever draft slot.

He ignored the fact that we resigned Levine Toilolo who had a great re pore with Stafford last year. TE is not a huge need at this point but we will grab one somewhere along the line in the draft. Also we need a coverage LB more than any other position. Christian Jones is too slow. We dont need another edge guy necessarily. Flowers and Okwara are both pretty good. Okwara could have a huge year if he stays healthy. Kennard will add depth. The writers tend to look at last years stats and not the circumstances.

I like this breakdown better
New Lions roster projection shows significant free-agent improvements

Yeah but he can't be any worse than Wagner or whoever the hell was playing RG for us last year though.

Cam Robinson was Bama's starting LT during Jonah Williams True Frosh season as the latter was their starting RT. Williams was dominant as a RT. Frosh All-American at RT btw.

If he didn't pick up Decker's 5th year option and let him walk. That would be truly Millenesque.
As much as I am lukewarm on Quinn. I don't think he is that incompetent.

2019 NFL Draft: Why Jonah Williams is like David Bakhtiari, Jawaan Taylor is like Trent Williams and other OL comparisons

Interior Offensive Line
Terronne Prescod, OG, NC State
NFL comparison: Brandon Brooks

Probably my biggest #DraftCrush that goes against the consensus -- Prescod wasn't invited to the combine -- the NC State star is a massive human at around 6-5 and 330-ish pounds. Despite those measurements, Prescod was asked to get lateral in the Wolfpack's zone-blocking scheme, and in doing so he was a pleasant surprise. In pass protection, Prescod can be beaten by super-quick penetrators. The same was true for Brooks when he came into the league. However, like Brooks, Prescod is a wall in pass protection, even if it doesn't always look textbook. Bull rushes don't faze him, and while he may be a tick slow reacting to twists, he's aware of them, and if he gets his hands on those twisting defensive linemen, it's over. In a power scheme, or even if loses some weight, Prescod can be an awesome value selection in the draft.

2019 NFL Draft: Why Jonah Williams is like David Bakhtiari, Jawaan Taylor is like Trent Williams and other OL comparisons

Chris Lindstrom, OG, Boston College
NFL comparison: Joel Bitonio

Lindstrom is a guard with tackle feet. I've written that often about the Boston College star because that's the first thing I think about when evaluating him. The move to guard in his senior season worked wonders for his draft stock, and he crushed the combine workouts. Like Bitonio -- who played tackle at Nevada -- Lindstrom is equally as impactful in the pass game as he is road-grading for the run.

^^^^

I highly doubt Lidstrom makes it past the first 4-6 draft picks of the 2nd round and could quite possibly be drafted in latter handful of picks in the 1st round. Lidstrom, imo, is a plug and play starter day 1.

2019 NFL Draft: Why Jonah Williams is like David Bakhtiari, Jawaan Taylor is like Trent Williams and other OL comparisons

Elgton Jenkins, C, Mississippi State
NFL comparison: Travis Frederick

Today, we think of Frederick as probably the most nimble yet powerful center in football. His combine workout didn't indicate he'd flourish thanks to athletic traits, but he was also a people mover at Wisconsin and routinely halted bull rushes with strong legs and an awesome back bend. Jenkins tested better than Frederick yet doesn't look as mobile on the field. Weird how that works sometimes. However, like Frederick, Jenkins is a monster in the run game and yawns at bull rush attempts. He has a massive 83-inch wingspan too. Jenkins is comparable to Frederick because he's as NFL-ready as they come at the center position.

Oh okay. Maybe that's what I was thinking. Either way, starting immediately for the Tide as a true frosh means you are special. The have 5star after 5star prodigies waiting to play behind the starters.
