Lions are a fun team to watch. Big bounce back for Goff yesterday after throwing 5 picks the week before.
I think they're pretty clearly the favorite right now.
That said, there are a bunch of good teams in the league that if they get things figured out then they can beat the Lions if Goff has a bad game. The thing that I think makes the Lions really scary is that there doesnt really seem to be an elite defense (Steelers?) out there so the formula for winning this year will likely be an elite offense and a good defense.
I think the thing with the AFC is that you can clearly identify 7 good teams. That likely means a pretty brutal AFC playoffs. The NFC I think its just the Lions as the lone great team in the NFL with the Eagles, Commanders, and Vikings in the solidly good team category.Lions are definitely the favorites to win the NFC IMO, they have the best offense and a good D.
The NFC is deeper than the AFC but doesn’t have as many really strong teams - the main teams I could see competing with the Lions are the Eagles and Packers, those teams have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball and could beat the Lions. I don’t see anyone from the South or West being able to beat them - the 49ers are very talented but are too inconsistent.
I would like to see the Lions win it all, barring my Falcons going on a miracle run the Lions are my favorite of the NFC contenders, I feel for any fanbase that has suffered as many losses as they have and I really like Dan Campbell and how he’s turned the Lions around.
I would definitely include the Packers in the good team territory. They are a bigger threat than the Commanders or Vikings IMO - Commanders are good but they don’t have quite enough to go on a Super Bowl run IMO - they don’t have enough weapons at receiver or a strong enough D, as for the Vikings I don’t trust Darnold at all and their D has some holes. The Packers have a solid and fairly deep team on both sides of the ball, Love needs to cut down on the turnovers but I think they are the bigg3st threat to the Lions other than the Eagles.I think the thing with the AFC is that you can clearly identify 7 good teams. Still early, though.
What about Tampa, Saints, Indy, Denver, Green Bay etc? Seems like a larger pool outside of Tier 1 Lions to me in the NFCI think the thing with the AFC is that you can clearly identify 7 good teams. Packers are currently +37 point differential. Kinda dinging them for the same reason Im not saying the Chiefs are great.I would definitely include the Packers in the good team territory. Why?Fun as hell to watch
Can any of you NFL nerds look up the last time a team averaged that many points for a season?
Indy and Denver are in the AFC. What exactly are you talking about? And the Saints aren’t very good, you mention them and the Bucs yet you don’t mention the Falcons? The Falcons are the best team in the NFC South and are the favorites to win the division despite their back to back losses. This post doesn’t make much sense. What about Tampa, Saints, Indy, Denver, Green Bay etc? Seems like a larger pool outside of Tier 1 Lions to me in the NFC
My apologies on Indy and Denver lol, multi tasking and not thinking straight…Indy and Denver are in the AFC. What exactly are you talking about? Fair enough. It seems like the AFC has more clear cut really strong teams - Chiefs, Bills, Steelers, Ravens, while in the NFC the Lions and maybe the Eagles stand out above the rest. The NFC seems a bit deeper - all 4 West teams are in the playoff race, 3 teams in the North in the race, Falcons and Bucs in the South and Eagles and Commanders in the East, whereas in the AFC I’m pretty sure six of the playoff teams will be Chiefs, Ravens, Steelers, Bills, Texans and Chargers, I’m not sure who the 7th will be I guess the Broncos, there are more weak teams in the NFC - the only terrible teams in the NFC are the Panthers, Giants, perhaps the Cowboys and Saints, in the AFC the Jags, Titans, Raiders, Browns, Pats and Jets suck.My apologies on Indy and Denver lol, multi tasking and not thinking straight…
NFC: Lions, Eagles, Vikes, Green Bay, Skins, Cardinals, Falcons
AFC: Bills, Chiefs, Steelers, Ravens, Texans, Chargers, Broncos
My point was…
I don’t see that big a difference in overall team performance, outside the Lions myself, on the road to playoffs at this moment in time

I think part of what colors my view on the NFC is that I haven't seen enough of the Cardinals. I'm looking at their roster and not really sure how their defense is putting up the numbers that its putting up. I probably need to watch them more. My bias is to think Kyler Murray will fade down the stretch and their defense can't be as good as it has shown. My apologies on Indy and Denver lol, multi tasking and not thinking straight…

You guys got your chip tho. This is true. 37.9 points per game in 2013 for the Broncos. Highest average in NFL history. Didn't matter in the end, though.
How come they didn't trade for an edge rusher? With Hutchinson I think I would have agreed that they were favorites or at least amongst the favorites to win it all. Without him they're just contenders. IMO.
When things go right they're tough to beat. When they run the ball at will to a 20 point lead in the first quarter it's easy to throw the ball play action against a team that has given up and is just playing ad individuals for their paychecks. But we saw the week before what happens in a closer game.
Without Hutchinson we really struggle to get much pressure at all. We're getting great safety play and good CB play. But a few weeks ago Branch was ejected from a game, and yesterday he put his helmet into a TE's chest in one of the harder hits I've seen all season. Completely legal hit, but if the TE had ducked his head 6 inches right before contact...? Branch gets tossed again probably.
Just without Hutchinson on defense I think there's too many ways that this team can be beat. There's plenty of ways they can win too, I'm not discounting them or anything. But in the playoffs everyone plays hard, and I think that goes a long ways towards evening things up.
They did get Zadarius Smith or whoever. If Myles Garrett, or Trey Hendrixckson, or Maxx Crosby would have been available they might have. But they have very very few older vets and have a bunch of their key players locked up long term. Maybe they didn't feel like mortaging the future for one Superbowl. Like Rams did with Stafford when Donald was nearing the end. And then went back to purgatory for a couple years. They have to feel like they can maintain this level of competition for the near future at least. How come they didn't trade for an edge rusher?
