Today they had franchise marks for yards from scrimmage, point differential and first downs.

38 first downs today. NFL record is 40.

Chiefs back when they still had Hill put up over 35 a game. And Paintin Manning’s Broncos put up almost 40 a game that one year.

I love seeing what the Lions are doing. That team and it's fan base have been in purgatory for so long. Gotta love Dan Campbell and his toughness. This franchise is heading in the right direction. I've never been a Lions fan but I'm definitely pulling for them now.

Purgatory? They've seen the depths of hell. It's been almost 70 years since their last title and have suffered for as long as you can suffer. That stated those fans have shown up, for the most part, the entire time.

It's a little to early to crown them, but things could break their way. Their next 4 is at the Colts, then at home on Thanksgiving for the Bears, the next Thurs at home for the Packers and home for the Bills. Then @Bears, @49ers and Vikings at home. They will not be a dog in any of those games and my guess is they'll be -3 for the Bills game and the rest they'll be favored. I'm thinking they'll finish 15-2 or 14-3. I have no clue what games they'll lose, but they sure as heck won't be beaten badly and will be in the game and the other team will need a few breaks to win. So right now I see them as the favorite for the obelisk. Still lots of games to play, but you better strap that hat on tight if you're playing them.

The Lions are the best team in the NFL IMO - they certainly have the best offense - they are loaded with offensive talent, are great at both rushing and passing and have a stellar O-Line. Solid D as well although the edge rush is a bit of a concern with Hutchinson out for the year.

This is true. 37.9 points per game in 2013 for the Broncos. Highest average in NFL history. Didn't matter in the end, though.
Still a hella impressive offensive run though…

Dan has done a great job with them, the one thing he’s gotta reign in a bit is, he’s a gambling man putting evening on the line when it’s not necessary, going for 2 instead of tying a the game and trusting your team can get it done… He’s gonna face that decision again as most playoff games are usually close …

I like the Lions and if there's a fan-base that deserves something to feel good about. Its the Lions fan-base. I think they're on their way to a Super Bowl title this year. Long as they avoid major injuries or a lapse in the playoffs. If the Skins make the playoffs, they'll be the only team I'd pull for over the Lions. Though I shudder to think what would happen to the Skins if they face a Lions team clicking on all cylinders.

Far as in the Super Bowl era goes. Averaging 33.6 points a game while only allowing 17.7 pt a game. Puts them in real close striking distance of topping the Super Bowl winning team with the highest average margin of victory in the regular season in the Super Bowl era. The 1991 Redskins averaged 30.3 pt a game/485 total pt scored while only allowing14 pt a game/224 total pt allowed for an average margin of victory of 16.3 pt a game in the regular season. Right now the Lions are right behind that with a winning average in the reg season of 15.9 pt per game. That Skins team rolled in the playoffs as well. Beating the Falcons 24-7, the Lions 41-10 and the Bills 37-24. I see this Lions team as very capable of doing similar things.

A Kansas City vs Detroit SB would be pretty epic. The Lions going for their first SB title vs the Chiefs going for a 3peat. Or a Buffalo vs Detroit SB and the implications that would entail.

Oh, and on a side note. If the Lions do win the Super Bowl this year. That would have to make the Goff for Stafford trade one of the most successful trades, if not the most successful trade for both teams in any era I'd imagine.

I'm rooting for the Lions. Their fans have suffered more than enough.

91 is the year I realized I was more of a Lions than Skins fan 20 years after moving here from there. The Skins smoked the Lions twice.. the 1st game and the NFC Championship game. That was the best Lions team since I started watching them regularly and it was nowhere near as good as this team appears to be. Injuries could derail them of course, but getting to Goff seems to be the only way to slow down their offense, but their OL is one of the best and he has been showing more mobility and elusiveness lately.

They clearly look like the best team in the NFC but I just keep expecting them to do Lions things and choke eventually, probably in the playoffs.

Aaron Glenn.

I am convinced he is their Achilles heal.

His absolute instance on playing man coverage WAY too much without a secondary that is actually really good at it is going to bite them in the playoffs when it matters most.

It is my number one complaint about defensive coordinators these days. They would rather player THEIR scheme and lose just so that they can claim credit if they win. Other than playing schemes that actually fit the talent that they currently have.

I think they're pretty clearly the favorite right now.

That said, there are a bunch of good teams in the league that if they get things figured out then they can beat the Lions if Goff has a bad game. The thing that I think makes the Lions really scary is that there doesnt really seem to be an elite defense (Steelers?) out there so the formula for winning this year will likely be an elite offense and a good defense.

The Eagles defense has shown a lot of improvement, only six TDs allowed in the past six games, but I certainly don't think they are elite yet. The Steelers are probably the best defensive team for sure.

Lions being heavy on man d could indeed kill them in the playoffs against better talent, especially since they are not particularly good in terms of pass rushing after injuries there.
