Detroit Lions player’s performance escalators could lower 2021 salary cap space - Pride Of Detroit

TW and Crosby each will have their base salaries increased for this upcoming season. KG had the same type raise last year as did Graham Glasgow the year prior.

Tracy Walker, the Lions third-round pick, played 73.5 percent of snaps in 2019 and 67.1 percent in 2020, meaning he qualifies for a first-level performance escalator. His 2021 base salary will increase from $920,000 to $2.183 million, bringing his new salary cap figure to just over $2.4 million.

Tyrell Crosby, the Lions fifth-round pick, played on 36.5-percent of snaps in 2019 and 62.7-percent in 2020, and he will receive a first-level performance escalator as well. Like Walker, Crosby will see his 2021 base salary increase from $920,000 to $2.183 million, and his new salary cap figure will be just over $2.25 million.

I found/saved this link about a month ago and if this kid can provide the type of blocking on the NFL field as he does in this clip then that's one smart move from whoever was in charge when they signed him (and it wasn't Holmes - as the signing occurred just prior to Holmes')

This kid was the only one of 7 or 8 futures signings to receive a 3 year contract even though none of those have any guarantees. I found that odd and yet quite interesting at the same time.

Lions sign DB Godwin Igwebuike, DE Robert McCray & TE Hunter Thedford to Reserve/Future contracts (detroitlions.com)

This really highlights that I don't see anything passed receiving TE's, Brant Kuithe gets all the views for the Utes from TE

Isnt most every team in the same or even worse position though?

yes.

I don't want to see this team spend one damn penny on a FA pass rusher this year which includes R. Okwara.
It'd be a waste of money as it will take a minimum of two drafts to even see if they are competitive enough to sign a FA to fill a void.

Draft an edge and an interior pass rusher.
In that list, all names listed were edge pass rushers.

Speilman has a similar philosophy as me. I draft the outside or skill positions (DE/OLB, CB, WR, QB, RB) and use FA mostly for the inside.

I can see where this philosophy can be beneficial.

This team has so many needs where the outside in may very well work this year for the 1st 3 or 4 picks in the draft.

I think it depends on where your current roster stands.

2021 Detroit Lions free agent profile: Oday Aboushi was a low-key, pleasant surprise - Pride Of Detroit

Actual role in 2020

16 games (8 starts)
PFF grade:
66.6 (27th out of 92 qualifying OGs)

Aboushi was one of Detroit’s most pleasant surprises of 2020. As Detroit tried to figure out what exactly they wanted to do with the oft-injured Vaitai and the rest of the team’s depth, Aboushi stepped into a starting role in the second half of the year, and provided some much-needed consistency at the right guard position.

As mentioned at the top, the Lions are in a pretty good spot with their depth right now. However, Dahl is a potential cap casualty that could save the Lions $2.875 million in cap space. Aboushi could be re-signed for less than that, and if Detroit believes Stenberg is ready to take a step towards being a primary backup, they’d be in pretty good standing on the offensive line.

This labrum tear that Williams suffered last year in training camp is the 2nd one he's had in his career. The first occurred in his last year of CFB (maybe why he wasn't drafted plus the fact he comes from a small school).

Also, I read he's had two plantar fasciitis injuries (2018 and 2019 - two games missed)

I wanted T. Williams back in 2019 but not at a cost of 11M a year.
