Honestly, if Lillard can get Anthony Davis to somehow sign with Portland, the Blazers could very very well be title contenders for the next couple years.

But with his current surrounding cast and with the super team of Golden State Portland's best chance is a WCF appearance.

Dame: 23.5 ppg on 18 shots per game, .434/.368/.889, 4.2 rpg, 6.3 apg, 1.0 spg

Career achievements:

Steph (in his 11th year): 3x NBA champ, 2x MVP, 6x All-star, 2x All-NBA 1st team, 2x All-NBA 2nd team, 1x All-NBA 3rd team, 1x scoring champ, 1x steals leader, 1x 50/40/90 club, 1x 3 pt contest champ, 1x NBA sportsmanship award, NBA All-rookie team, 1x AP Athlete of the year, 1x 1st team All-American, 1x 2nd team All-American, 1x NCAA scoring leader

Exactly where is Dame better? Steph is equal or better in every category/stat other than finishing second in rookie of the year voting.

Explain how supporting cast matters when discussing Lillard vs Curry?
Basketball is a team sport. No one wins alone.

He's a good player but not on Curry's level yet.

What does career stats have to do with who is better now?

Portland is approx $18M over the cap already for next season. If they dump all their cap holds and non-guaranteed contracts in 2020, they could potentially offer him up to $30M or so (minus their 1st round picks' salaries this year and next) to add him to their 4 person team of Dame/CJ/Nurkic/Trent Jr (plus any 1st round picks).

How are they going to do that? He's not an FA this off-season, so the Blazers have to trade for him. Who are they giving up that's going to get them AD and not pretty well gut the team?

As shopson points out, they are capped out too. So that makes it even trickier.

In 2020, they could cut loose everyone not guaranteed and make an offer. However, it won't be near his full max and they will have to fill the rest of the roster with league minimum players. Not exactly a front running offer, unless he's not concerned about the money (and he did state as such when he turned down the Pel's supermax extension).

This Geems character shouldn't post about basketball because he clearly doesn't have a strong grasp of it. I think a food forum would be more his speed where he could post his current meal he was enjoying.

For some reason I thought AD was a free agent this year, that is why the Pelicans shut him down and he practically gave up for half the season.

Good grief :L is he going to sit out all of next year too then?

Wow, I thought the same as you. This could get real ugly then.

Nope. FA in 2020. They sat him bc they knew they wouldn't contend for a playoff spot and wanted to get peak value for him instead of get less value like we have seen in the past, Butler, Kyrie, etc.

If Portland did trade for AD, Mccollum would definitely be part of that deal imo

so NO's hope is they make a trade before the season I assume?

Because no team trades for him right before the deadline unless they know he will re-sign with them long term. Yet you run the risk of trading everything for him and then him only staying with your team for 1 year.

This is a mess. Unless I could be 100% certain he would sign with me long term I don't think I make the trade. For instance, Portland trades everything for him, gets him 1 year, then he bolts and you're left with Lillard and that is it and you are worse off then before.

Drama that I wouldn't welcome. Good luck New Orleans.

He would have to be, and before this Nuggets series I would have said that was a no question deal and absolutely worth it. But now, Lillard has been bottled up CJ actually has stepped up and carried the team. But realistically if Portland wanted to make big moves it'd have to trade big players and CJ would be gone.

Maybe Portland's best hope is to build to whatever that 2020 off season brings. Try to protect Lillard, CJ, Nurk and prepare to get AD. Hope to get a solid 5 year run out of them.

Portland would most likely want AD to agree to an extension this summer if they did trade for him. Yeah that's why teams could wait unless they can get him now. The Lakers need him NOW especially if they don't get another star to sign this summer. The last thing they need to do is waste another year of Lebron in LA.

Even if they wait, right now their 2020 cap space is -$17M. They would have to make some trades.

Lillard, McCollum, Nurkic, Turner (uggh), Leonard, Harkless, Collins are all under contract.

Well...breaking down two very talented PGs at this level and trying to determine who is better typically boils down to the player you like most.

I will say...support cast can effect some stats such as assists, and shooting %.
