Jose Fernandez is a guy too.. Kuroda is having a great year, Zimmerman is having a great year, shields, Garza, Iwakuma. So it's really difficult to say that Darvish is the best after one dominant outing against a AAA team
:L
Nobody is judging him on one outing. We're talking about this season - that's what I mean by "at this point in time".
If you look at the numbers, Darvish is having a better year than any RHP other than possibly Felix, Harvey, or Scherzer. There's no way you can convince any of us that Iwakuma or Garza is a better pitcher than Darvish... I can pull up the stats if you like.

I too am all about innings when it comes to best pitchers. Find me the guy that has thrown more quality innings than other guys and you have my Cy Young. To this day I have no clue how Nolan Ryan was screwed out of winning the Cy Young in his career. Look at his 1974 stats and tell me how he didn't deserve to win Cy Young....

Wow, 332 innings pitched and a 2.89 ERA AND BAA .190. Not to mention 367 strike outs....22 game winner.

And the winner was??? Catfish Hunter 318 innings pitched, 2.49; BAA .229; K's 143....25 game winner.

Tells me the "formula" for most voters has not changed from "total wins."

That year Nolan came in third in the voting behind Fergie Jenkins of the Rangers. Jenkins won 25 games as well. Tells us something about the voting.

C'mon man seriously? Only one good start all year :L

I'm not saying he's had one good start, I'm saying this new hype over him started with yesterday's outing. I think he may be in the top 5, but we are very bias about it. I think fans in seattle would say he'd be their number 3

I don't know how biased the stats are, but they are what they are.

Iwakuma: 2.96 ERA, .221 BAA, 0.99 WHIP, 138 SO
Darvish: 2.64 ERA, .186 BAA, 1.00 WHIP, 207 SO

Next, please.

Hunter pitched for the world champion A's...so he wins
Jenkins won 25 for the upstart Rangers, who came out of nowhere to finish in second place behind the A's...he gets second
Ryan pitched for the Angels, who weren't very good. *FOGHORN* - Ryan's out.... FYI, he was a beast, there was no way you could beat this guy unless he was wild or his team failed behind him...which happened very often..

They were talking about this today on MLB - if Scherzer wins 20 and the Tigers win their division (and The pennant), is there any way in hell that he doesn't win the Cy Young??? We have a winner...it's popularity contest to a large degree...

Thought about this last night. While we are discussing Cy Young candidates, none of us mentioned Bartolo Colon. I know two shaky outings but his numbers are up there with the rest. I know, no one here likes the guy.

He's just so fat though
In all honestly, he's a good pitcher. But even if he wasn't fat and ugly, I would take Darivsh, Felix, Scherzer, and more over him without a doubt which is why he really isn't in the AL Cy Young discussion.

Nothing wrong with putting Felix at the top, but its a matter of perspective. If a third party proposed a trade between Texas and Seattle, Yu for Felix straight up, I think Seattle would do the deal in a heartbeat, but theres no way Texas makes that trade

I sort of don't want Darvish to win a Cy Young because then it will take a year off his contract. But, I have a feeling he will one in the next couple of years. He's amazing.

That's because Darvish has the best 'stuff' and probably the most potential, but that doesn't make him better at this point in time.

Hopefully he wins it in his last year.
