I sort of don't want Darvish to win a Cy Young because then it will take a year off his contract. But, I have a feeling he will one in the next couple of years. He's amazing.

I was actually thinking the same thing. All I care about is a World Series ring and it would be awesome if he was the MVP of the series. But he has a case this year for the CY

This is a comment I read on an article.

"17-1 is 17-1. Screw ERA, WAR, FIP, WHIP or any of that other ridiculous alphabet soup nonsense stat geeks have wet dreams over. Call me old school (and, at 54, I am), but when you've got an eyepopping won-loss record like that, it's clear to me Scherzer SHOULD win the Cy Young. Period. End of story."

You know, I pretty much head-desked when I realized he wasn't being sarcastic.

Sometimes I wonder if I would have survived in the pre-Saber days....

What we have to come to grips with is that conventional CY (and MVP) thinking comes from an era of hand levered adding machines, stirrups over sanitary hose, ash bats and when saber-metrics were only something cavalry officers did with their swords.

As a matter of fact ... reason Sherzer has so many wins is because he has the best run support in the AL. Here we get all spun up over how FIP is incorporated into WAR ... and whether WAR is even important ... yet run support which is totally a position player factor ... isn't part of the conversation. It should be ... read this: MLB 2013: Alternative to Pitcher Win-Loss Record - Bohemian Baseball

Many here (and everywhere) think the CY award as something important to the game ... but because run support is not being considered part of this current CYA conversation is why I could care squat about CYA (or MVP).

Thanks for posting this. Yeah if he goes 23-3 and is close to Hernandez in all the other stats, he gets the Cy Young easily I think.

I am waiting for just one article on the amazing 17-1 record to mention the one loss came against the Texas Rangers:)

But but but win loss record means everything!!! Did you not here the other stats don't matter :)

Scherzer stacks up well when factoring in other stats as well, such as ERA, WHIP, K/9, etc..
He's most likely the favorite for the CYA at the moment (because voters DO care about w/l), but... we'll see what happens.

He has the wins because by a wide margin he has the best runs support of all AL pitchers. I am not even sure he is the best pitcher on his team.

Darvish is better than scherzer in everything except whip w/l. Darvish has still a good record that stacks up well. But I can care less if scherzer wins anyway he's not better than yu or Felix.

Yeah scherzer is the best on his team lol. Verlander is having a down year this year

You don't think Scherzer has been the best pitcher on his team this season?

Verlander beat TEX ... Scherzer didn't. Ergo...

Scherzer 6.04RS (#1AL) w/2.85ERA for a 3.19 differential
Darvish 4.74RS (#14) w/2.64ERA for a 2.1 differential
Felix 4.24RS (#26) w/2.28ERA for a 1.96 differential

Given ERA and lowest differential which creates the greatest stress ... Felix is the best AL pitcher.

Exactly that's why I rank Felix/darvish/scherzer in that order as of right now

I never said Darvish was any worse than Scherzer. I simply stated that Scherzer was the favorite to win the CYA...big difference :)
