Steelers traded a conditional round pick to Arizona so he could tear his triceps in warmups.

Doesn't shit like this only happen to us?

Steelers IR Levi Brown, David Johnson, sign Isaiah Green, Richard Gordon | National Football Post

Also, for team growing older by the day...might have not been the best front office decision to give up any picks at this time.

Oh well...too bad.

Not anymore.

I agree about giving up picks (even though they won't have to give up one in the this conditional trade now) Older...actually PIT is getting much younger...just not as good.

In the past the Steelers were always known for making smooth transitions from older players to younger ones. It always seemed like whenever someone was aging they had the guy already there on the team, and he had been there grooming for a couple of years, and he was plugged in and they never missed a beat. The drafting has evidently declined over the last few years because it seems that is no longer the case.

It also seems that they've lost more players over the past few years than they have in the past. Whether that was due to contracts being up at the same time, or what, it seems like bad planning.

The drafting has not helped. They let Wallace go, and Brown has been solid, but is not a #1. They haven't replaced their running game in 5 years, and the OL has been retreaded so many times that when it started to finally become a focus, it was going to end up being a major over-haul in the middle of some of Ben's prime years. Very bad planning.

The fact that he was traded for anything is beyond me. He was a revolving door his entire career in AZ. Excellent front office move by the Cards. Thanks for the free pick Steelers!

The Steelers got caught in contract hell. They were way over the cap this offseason and had to make some premature changes. They fucked with Roethlisberger's contract so many times, it's going to catch up to them too. He's owed over $18 million per year for the next two years. They also haven't drafted well. Those D-linemen they've stockpiled just aren't as good as they are used to having. Turns out, they are fallible

They should trade Big Ben to Houston and start over.

Interesting to hear about your team from neighbors if you will.

A lot of truth in your post...jmo, not sure if other Steeler fans will agree or not...the beginning of the downfall was retaining a lot of still very good, but veteran players (Aaron Smith, Hinds Ward, Casey Hampton, and your own James Harrison, etc.) after the GB SB loss...they did that to make one more run at a SB, and the bottom line was it backfired in DEN against Tebow of all QBs.

That tied up a lot of cap money so they could not retain players like Keenan Lewis and Mike Wallace by signing them to long term deals early before they hit FA.

Draft...Colbert has missed on some picks, but to be honest, the draft is kind of working like it was designed really...for a decade PIT drafted mid 1st round maybe twice, but in the high 20s quite often...just not going to find to many OL (certainly not OTs) or DL studs at that spot in the draft.

The years of grooming young players and coaching them up for a couple of years are over...the young guys need to play earlier and it shows.

A. Brown...I thought the same thing, but he's got #1 talent...he's putting up pretty good numbers without Wallace which surprised me to this point.

The OL problems imo have been health related more so than just lacking talent. Plus a QB that thinks every play will win the game doesn't help...I think they will be competitive, but it's really not a playoff roster...still gotta play the games though so we'll see.

Yes. They went "all in" for another SB with the same core players, and it hurt them in the long run, plus they didn't win a SB.

Brown has done well, but I still think he's a more accomplished #2 with a better, more rounded talent at #1. He can still prove me wrong, though.

Agreed with the OL health, but my point kind of was the retreading of the OL for so many years (as opposed to working in at least 1 younger player in and spread it out) really made the injuries hurt that much more. DeCastro lost his first year, Pouncey this year, Adams was a bad pick, IMO, but when you have all those guys lined up within a year of one another, that's a lot of experience that is lacking. Not even mentioning talent (which is there in POuncey and DeCastro). Then, with the cap, there's no room to even find a mid-level stop-gap in case of injuries.

Had they simply started working on the OL sooner, they would have more experience, and more depth at a more reasonable cost. Instead, they are where they are.

Steelers will somehow make the best of it, they don't have Mike Brown strapping them back indefinitely like we do.

All in...yep, exactly. Admittedly I was too, but I did see this day coming with so many vets locked into big money contracts. A few of those guys played in 3 SB games, and a fair amount of them played in 2 so it's painful now, but gotta take the good with the bad I guess.

OL...talent wise I think the players they have are okay...losing Pouncey hurt but Velasco is proving to be worthy of starting. Adams is taking a lot of flak, a lot of it well earned but his play hasn't been terrible all year...he just had his worst game during the 4th straight loss...but, the guy is a 1st yr starter @ LT and contrary to what we heard on draft day...he was not 1st rd talent that slid b/c of a positive test...he was 2nd rd talent that needs some developing.

Brown...you're right, but he's putting up #s like a #1. I can live with him in that spot. Sanders can make plays, but I'm not sold is a true #2...I see them letting him walk and taking another stab at a taller WR. The Wheaton kid has shown flashes that he will be a playmaker, but missed a lot of rookie camp, apparently just was learning his role then got hurt.

PIT most likely won't make the playoffs this yr. but imo they're not that far away. I'm sure they will be ask for slight pay cut, but Troy, and Ike maybe playing themselves into the final yr of their deals next year. Clark will likely be gone replaced with Golden or Shamarko Thomas...Keisel is mostly likely done after this year as well.

The problem with Adams isn't necessarily his play, it's that the Steelers drafted him to be a LT. I've always felt he was a RT in the NFL. There's a strong class of tackles in the coming draft. The Steelers would do well to take a true LT.

He has sucked something awful especially the MIN game, but you're right he hasn't been MIN bad every game, and you're also right that he's not a LT...supposedly the best feet of the OL on the roster, but not starting NFL LT feet.
