I could see Drake London as the first WR off the board. He is way more of a Tee Higgins than a J'marr Chase but I think still a good place to be as a WR prospect. He might not get the best separation but he also has the god given ability to win his contested plays.

Treylon Burks probably should be near the top. Thats a guy who plays as physical as Chase but is probably more in the mold of Demaryius Thomas. Great combo of speed, strength, size, and hands. He just isnt the most fluid athlete ever so just stick with the routes he is good at in the NFL level. Arkansas didnt have the best QB but Burks was still able to make some big plays. Early eyeball test puts him and London in the top tier imo.

Garrett Wilson has great body control and balance. He'll be able to make up for an inaccurate QB. Not sure thats the most useful trait at the NFL level but he also doesn't really have any flaws you can point out, either. Maybe he'll be a Brandon Lloyd type where he makes some really spectacular catches and has a decent career. A good combine could solidify him as the top guy but I kinda like him as a first rounder but outside of the top 10.

Jameson Williams is interesting because he is a lot stronger than most of the usual speedy WRs and he has a couple of inches in height on a lot of them. Had he not gotten hurt, I think he would've gotten drafted highly under the idea of continuing to develop his route tree because the sky is the limit on his upside. Him and George Pickens are probably guys that wont contribute right away at all but later on down the road could be great WR prospects beyond just being a 'go deep' kind of player. I think they're both intriguing but how many team can blow a high pick on a guy that probably wont do much next year? The Lions at 32? Williams seems like maybe an early rd2 while Pickens might be rd3.

Not sure I see the hype with Olave. He looks like Devonta Smith except without all of the film that made Devonta Smith special. Seems like a starter you can get in rd2 but I dont think he'll be third off the board.

Is this class so deep that Wan'dale Robinson couldn't even make the top 17? Dang. Robinson is a midget but he has excellent footwork and can get quick separation. He should probably go rd2.
I am hoping Williams sees a drop. Love for the Lions to get him. I am not sure how long it will be before he can play, but instant impact should not be the Lions main concern. Everything should be for the long term right now.

Hard to judge a rookie when he has his teams leading running back throwing him the football.
Analytically, hurts was not even close to as bad as folks make him out to be. I contend it was partially him, but if he had good receiving options hed be better…

Its such a great fit for the Lions. Ive seen Williams mocked to the Chiefs and I cant help but think that the Chiefs arent going that direction at all. They're almost certainly going to try and add a piece that can contribute in 2022.

Its actually difficult to find many landing spots for Williams. You figure even teams like the Jaguars and Bears are going to want WRs to come in right away and help their young QBs out.

My .02 on this is that Burrow is obviously better than Hurts but I do think that if the roles were reversed and Smith ended up on the Bengals and Chase on the Eagles then I think the Chiefs would've swept the Bengals. Ward really didnt do a terrible job covering Chase. Chase was just that good.

Both Chase and Ward had their best games against the Chiefs. Smith had 7 receptions on 10 targets for 122 Yards and 0 Tds mostly against Mike Hughes. Chase had 11 receptions on 12 targets for 266 Yards and 3 Tds against Charvarius Ward. Or at least I assume it was Ward because watching that game give me PTSD. I will say that Ward is a better corner than Hughes.

Devonta Smith will get what the defense gives him. Chase takes what he wants.

The top wide receivers in this year's draft, per CBS Sports and ESPN top 32 prospect rankings:

Rashod Bateman - Minnesota
Ja'Marr Chase - LSU
Rondale Moore - Purdue
Devonta Smith - Bama
Kadarius Toney - Florida
Jaylen Waddle - Bama

Well we don't have any New England at the moment so I can't honestly judge

any WRs you draft will go to waste until you get a QB that can utilize them beyond the flats.

Sure will. Williams tore his acl in the championship game. It is unlikely he will play this year. Drafting him at 32 would be about grabbing talent way that slot and letting him heal.

Li9ns will be picking top 5 again next year and the qb class is way better.

Jahan Dotson is a tough prospect to look at. At 5'11" 178lbs with short arms, low burst, and a poor 3 cone I think he has the potential to fall a bit in the draft. He ran a 4.43 at the combine but thats not really his game. His film is great from a college perspective but his traits in general dont really project that well to the NFL at all.

Someone who is an extreme example of good film and bad traits who had himself a career is Jarvis Landry and I think Dotson should probably bulk up a bit and try to emulate that style. Dotson seems really good at the catch point and moving towards the ball into momentum towards getting more yards. I think you'd want him to be catching back shoulder throws, doing comeback routes, and doing quick slants. Doesnt sound like a Chiefs receiver to me but I think some other teams (whoever gets Rodgers, for example) might see some use out of him.

Edit 4.5. Ppl r making a big deal? Hes 225…… this is good

Burks is the kind of guy where a 4.5 doesnt matter too much. You'd really like to see 4.4 because then you can start giving him all sorts of crazy comps to great receivers but even at 4.5 he is physical and catches well and he has tape of outrunning CBs at the college level.

Dotson is giving me flashbacks to CEH. I realize they're different positions but I loved CEH's film and hated his traits but he had a great 10 yd split at the combine and figured that was enough speed for him to excel at the NFL level. Dotson having one good speed trait and great film probably isnt going to make up for his lack of traits. That said, I dont hate Dotson as a prospect but rd1 is too rich imo.

Chase has the makings of an elite WR for the foreseeable future. Don’t see any reason to debate who the best in class is, because Chase has the talent and the supporting cast to be truly great.

The point regarding guys like Smith who had mediocre QBs throwing to them is that we need to give them some time before we truly know what they are.

Smith had his moments, but that offense just couldn’t throw.

I think they are different types of players for sure, but in the right offense I still believe Smith can be really good. Just probably not Jamar Chase good.

Watson has been one of the most explosive receivers at the FCS level since getting on the field at NDSU out of Plant High School in Tampa. As a redshirt freshman, he helped the Bison win yet another national title by contributing in 14 games (9-165-18.3 receiving; two starts). Watson was a second-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference selection in 2019, leading the eventual national champs with 34 receptions for 732 yards (ranking fourth in the FCS with 21.5 yards per reception) while scoring six times in 16 games (11 starts; also 13-162-12.5, one TD rushing; 4-70-17.5 kick returns). He was a first-team All-MVFC selection at receiver (19-442-23.3, one TD receiving: 21-116-5.5 rushing) and a second-team return specialist (10-338-33.8, two TD kick returns) in 2020, playing in 10 games with eight starts between the team's lone game in the fall and its 2021 spring schedule. Watson garnered second-team Associated Press FCS All-American accolades (43-801-18.6, seven TDs receiving; 15-114-7.6, one TD rushing; 10-227-22.7 kick returns in 12 games, 10 starts) in 2021, as well as a first-team all-conference nod. He missed the team's first three playoff games before starting in the national title game victory over Montana State. Christian's father, Tazim Wajid Wajed (formerly Tim Watson), was a defensive back at Howard and had a five-year NFL career (1993-97). His brother, Tre, played linebacker at two Big Ten Schools (Illinois, Maryland) and in the XFL, and his uncle, Cedric, played football at Marshall. -- by Chad Reuter

Overview
A receiver prospect with intriguing measurables and a strong belief in the team aspect of the game, Watson possesses an alluring combination of size and speed. He showed off improved route running and catch strength in 2021. He is much more gifted than his opposition was at NDSU and needs to prove he can elevate his game against bigger, faster players at the next level. He plays hard and fast but needs to add a few more pounds and learn to impose his frame on the coverage. He's a field-stretching option requiring a linear route tree and projects as a capable WR3/4 with more work.
Strengths
  • Father played safety in the NFL.
  • Very good blend of size, speed and length.
  • Touchdown production through air, ground and return game.
  • Plays fast from snap to whistle.
  • Displays foot quickness for take-off versus press.
  • Added some route polish in 2021.
  • Leverages defender's hips before cutting the opposite way.
  • Maintains acceleration through route stem.
  • Effective separation talent in linear route tree.
  • Improved hand strength on contested catches in 2021.
Weaknesses
  • Mirror-and-match corners can trace short to intermediate routes.
  • Lacks deep bend for sudden sink and stop.
  • Needs excess steps into the top of the break point.
  • Occasionally mistimes leaps to the throw.
  • Catch focus is below average.
  • Needs to impose his size on coverage when the ball goes up.

Watson seems limited as a receiver but a really good deep ball and gadget prospect. When you're that big and fast it's a game breaker but as a prospect I think he is about the same level as Terrace Marshall from last year except with a higher upside and lower floor.

Alec Pierce, though. I wish he was about 2 inches taller because at that point you could just use him like Kelce. I wouldn't be stunned if Pierce snuck into rd1.
