Choo will be fine. He was our best hitter before he got hurt last year. Anyone worried about him needs a reality check. That said, I don't like the idea of having three lefties in a row at the top of the order.

Yes -- forgot Martin - Odor - Fielder would be three LH in a row. But that would happen with Choo batting #2 as well. Right now I think he's better off hitting fifth.

When you have a lineup with five LH bats in it ... (Martin, Fielder, Choo, Moreland, Odor) ... odds are you may end up with a couple of them back to back however.

Too early to do much batting order experimentation ... but at some point I might like seeing Odor - Rua leading off.

Yeah, I know, 1 of 162. No white flags yet, but plenty to be alarmed about. If Gallardo is gonna be 86-89 with his fastball the rest of the year(as he had become in Milwaukee last year), then last night was just a preview of coming attractions

His average fastball velocity last year was 91+

As soon as we traded for him, I read that Milwaukee wanted to trade him because he was ''leaking velocity''. Either way, he threw a lot of 86 mph fastballs last night

By his own admission, he knows he is no longer a power pitcher and is concentrating on getting quick, ground ball outs. Last night, certainly wasn't a resume builder for him. But we'll see how he is after 5-7 starts, both home and away, and go from there.

With Gallardo as well as most NL pitchers there is always a danger that their results won't be nearly as good in the AL. The results we get from Detwiler may not be very pretty at all.

He's certainly no scrub, the guy has been an innings horse for years. That said, the 1st inning Homerun was belt high and flat as a pancake. The biggest problem for him may be that instead of being expected to be a little over .500 #3 pitcher, he's starting opening night

They've been saying that for years, but the numbers don't support it,

He's not a strikeout pitcher anymore and doesn't try to be, doesn't mean he's leaking velocity

I know some people on here were calling me knee jerk. When you consider what we're paying Choo, we're not getting our money's worth so far. That's all I was trying to say. I guess I should have stated it better. He's been decent, so I guess he's not a bust.

Hard to earn your pay on the DL. Yu,Perez, Moreland Prince Haven't earned much either for the same reason and they certainly are not a bust. Give these injuries time to heal.

Choo 2014
April -- .303 .433 .474 .907 -- 7RBI, 16BB, 20SO
May -- .279 .395 .442 .837 -- 11RBI, 15BB, 26SO
June -- .179 .278 .242 .520 -- 11RBI, 11BB, 26SO
July -- .219 .309 .313 .622 -- 5RBI, 12BB, 30SO
August -- .238 .278 .417 .694 -- 6RBI, 4BB, 29SO

When was it when he was healthy and great? You mean on May 6 when he peaked @ COL -- .370 .500 .554 1.054 but then lost 40 points in the next week.

Choo was hurt the vast majority of the year.

So he was "great" sometime between the end of April and May 6? Know "great" is subjective but I don't think his end of April line of .303 .433 .474 .907 isn't that great so he must have been "great" during those five games in the first week of May.

Just trying to narrow that period down when he was great.

I don't have time to get into the numbers right now. I'll come back to this later.
