I would have been fine with letting him finish his contract. As bks said, he actually over-achieved this year by getting the team to 86 wins, and actually chasing a wildcard spot up until the last week of the season. If not for that horrible start to the year...but OTOH, this is what they do: they're competitive enough to make people think they're just this close to getting over the hump, so they keep doing the same things they've been doing. Sometimes that includes hanging on to a skipper who isn't the solution.
Also, forget about Maddon, Girardi, or any other halfway decent manger coming here. We don't get prime dugout talent.
