Please? :pray2:

Certainly, we should at least be able to outpitch the Brewers, but we need to actually hit, so let's get the bats going this weekend [finally].

Let's go Bucs!

I wanted Braun to suck this year, so badly. Unfortunately he's dominant still.

........LET'S GO BUCS!

The Bucs luck out with only having to face Marcum. Gallardo pitched yesterday, and Grienke pitches tonight in LA. Wolf sucks this year and the other starter is a rookie I believe.

We counter with Corriea, Bedard and J-Mac. I like the match-up with the Brewers, for once.

That was a great, complete effort tonight. I always feel like Correia is about to go down in flames, but he's done about as much as you could ask from a 5th starter.

I keep thinking Tabata is going to wake up. I mean, obviously at this point he doesn't seem like an ideal corner outfielder, but I think it's pretty reasonable to expect him to hit like .250 and OBP of .330. He's nowhere near that.

I feel like the Buccos are a hot streak from Pedro away from really making some noise. I like Hague a lot batting 6th or 7th.

since may 8, barajas hitting 346, obp 400+, ops/1.000.
hague since callup 316/409/830(this ops would be 28 in NL if qualified)

tabata has been hitting the ball hard, but at people. very slow start and still on pace for 30 doubles and 10 triples and 6HR. as long as he stays healthy, would expect 270/350 and 35 2b, 10 3b and 8HR with 20 SB. remember, if accurate, he is only 23 right now.

may - harrison = 278/328/791(this ops would be 36 in the NL if he qualified). he seems feisty, agressive, can bunt and handle the bat, and lost weight and looks quicker.

that gives us a good
1. tabata
2. harrison
3. cutch
4. alvarez

6. barajas
7. hague
8. mercer, barmes

i believe the key to our offense, as long as those mentioned can sustain or approximate present production, is WALKER. having him at 5 is no protection for alvarez and they pitch around pedro and give him a lot of junk. pedro does seem to be having more good AB, but needs more protection. if hague or barajas can provide that, currently, they are a better 5 choice than walker. i would try barajas for several weeks and when mck is catching, let hague bat 5th. hague seems to be a guy, once he gets used to the bigs, that will relish important hitting roles in a game and rises to the occasion.

when jones is in right, he can bat 5th altho 2 lefties back to back, and can move mercer or walker to the 2 spot.

what are people's thoughts of walker. i like him, but not as our 5 at present.

I agree about Walker. He has no business hitting 5th. I'd like him 6th or 7th. He is a solid 2B but realistically he is not a #5 hitter and there is no shame in that, lots of people aren't on this roster.

About Tabata, I have felt the same way for a while. He seems to be hitting the ball hard a good bit of the time. I've alwas liked his approach. I feel like he's on the brink of breaking out, but like I said I've felt this way a while and fear it might not happen.

I wonder if Barajas has always been streaky like this. If so, I guess you gotta take the good with the bad.

If Pedro can be patient and draw walks, I like Hague a lot in the 5 hole. I agree about your assessment of him. Ideally you'd have a 5 hitter to hit 25+ homers. Sure, he probably won't do that, but since that's not something the Pirates have to put in the 5 spot, you gotta put the best hitter left at that point and I think it is Hague.

Tabata's BABIP was .256 when last I looked, despite batted ball profiles very similar to the past couple years, when his BABIP was .339 and .317. That has to change at some point, right?

can you explain this statistic to me and give me some players to compare it to as far as putting the gross number into perspective. too much other work today to look it all up myself, if you dont mind. thanks

BABIP = number of balls hit in play, that become hits. BABIP profile is the number of line drives, fly balls, groundballs, and infield fly balls a player hits. Obviously, the more line drives the better, and ground balls turn into hits a relatively high amount of time. Tabata hits a ton of groundballs, so it is surprising his BABIP is so low.

Similar players; Denard Span and Yunel Escoba.

BTW, Darkstone, he has hit a lot more infield fly balls this year, which have almost no chance of becoming hits, that might be a partial explanation. But yea I agree, it should be higher.

IMO, Tabata is too dependent on hitting the ball to right field, he needs to pull the ball some more to get his numbers up. I think it would increase his power numbers more than anything if he started pulling the ball.

thanks for the BABIP. anywhere in that number, can you find the GB/FB/Linedrive splits or is that from anecdotal observation?

yes, i does use right, which is good, but he is one of the few that needs to pull it just a tad more and more power and consistency will occur, because he is trying to push to many inner half pitches to right and grounding out to second or popping up depending on the height of the pitch.

There isn't anywhere that I know of that tells specifically Tabata's average on LD/FB/GB specifically.

But we do know how often LD/FB/GB's turn into hits, and the number of times Tabata has hit each one.
LD is about .700
GB is about .225
FB is about .150
IFFB is essentially 0

So it isn't exact, but it is likely Tabata should have a few more hits than he does.

I really like Hague, I think he'll be the temporary answer, not sure if he'll become a long term answer. His defense has impressed me too. I'd agree with the Walker frustrations. Honestly though, he's yet to have a consistent month in the majors. Had flashes of consistency for average, but just can't keep it up. Now, I'm not looking up stats, just going off memory and opinion. I like him, but he's too important of a player to not be getting on base.

You are kidding with "protection for Alvarez". The last stats I saw have Pedro with 13 walks, 60 Ks, in a 188 plate appearances, and a .194 B.avg.. No one is pitching around Pedro.

i think they give him a lot more junk than they would if there was a real 5 hole hitter.
grantes, pedro is not a real 4 hitter anyways, but that is all we got right now.
he probably is a 6 hitter on a real team when he isnt the focal point like he is now with cutch.

Most of Pedro HRs have come off breaking balls. His problem is his long swing. Anyone thats hitting .194, strikes out 1 out of every three at bats, and seldom walks should be extremely grateful to be in the lineup.

Stupid amount of HRs in that game. Miller Park man...crazy. Good series overall, if we...you know, just ignore that second one. Pirates control their destiny against the Red Legs. A sweep equals first place.
