DIPoto: Hey Kolten, how would you like to come play in Seattle where winning isn't a priority but we make up for it by offering you far less than other teams will? No? Okay but please let others know we did check in on you.

Jesus, all of these one year deals and the Mariners couldn’t pull off one real player for a one year deal?

If you had a choice would you come to the Mariners . The good ones are signing with a team that tries to win .

Come on you know that wasn't ever realistic. He signed for $18M which would have pushed our payroll up to around $90M. You can't expect a billionaire owner who owns a billion dollar franchise to spend more than he needs to when he is raking it while fans soak up this rebuild and give him a pass...again. It is like going into Wal-mart and there is only 3 checkers for a 100 hundred people while they expect you to do your own check-out as one of the richest families in the world sick back and smile. #sarcasm.

I agree $18 mill is too much and not worth it to me. I think Simmons was around $10 mil which is more realistic.

Instead we get to read articles about how everyone wanted Chris Flexon. Sweet!

Ya I was being Mariner sarcastic (a new language I am developing). They could have afforded the $18M and not have blinked an eye. Could you imagine in a best case scenario his trade value at the deadline? Or re-sign him if he was willing? I don't need to tell you how disappointing all this is. You feel it just as much as I do.

I am okay not signing Simmons. He turned me off when he quit on his team last year. I don't want that attitude around young players.

If I have to read one more F'ing Flexon article...

And here's
@jimcallisMLB
on Kelenic: "At worst, Kelenic should be a right fielder who hits .280 with 20 homers on an annual basis. He comes with a lofty ceiling too, as he could be a center fielder who wins batting titles and posts 30-30 seasons."

Sure, but a payday is a payday. So whether it be ownership or Jerry, agents don’t forget.

The last part is concerning to me. If Lewis is the CF, then they need to start having Kelenic play LF in ST. Haniger will be the RF.

The only thing I didn't even realize until just now is this year could be full of 20th Anniversary commercials, articles, and special guest appearances for our magical 2001 season of a lifetime (that they tend to forget failed in the end).

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that Nolan Arenado is expected to waive his no-trade clause on Saturday.

Heyman notes that Arenado is thrilled with the trade and to be heading to the Cardinals -- a team that contends for the playoffs every season. Heyman also adds that the superstar third baseman will receive an extra guaranteed year on his contract at around $15 million as part of the negotiated deal. There's still a few hoops to jump through before the deal becomes official, but it looks like all systems go.

Another guy that should have been a Mariner with a simple waiver claim:

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports that the Indians have agreed to a one-year, $8 million contract with free agent outfielder Eddie Rosario.

Feinsand had noted earlier Friday that the two sides were closing in on a deal, and now it looks like it's official -- pending a physical. Rosario gets a small raise over the $7.75 million that he earned in 2020, though winds up with considerably less than he would have if he had gone to arbitration with the Twins instead of being non-tendered. The 29-year-old slugger should continue to terrorize the opposing pitching in the American League Central and pile up plenty of home runs and RBI in the middle of the Indians lineup.
