No More "Bullpen Failure" - maybe
Tyler Davis is trying to make himself known. This is his line from last night for Frisco.
SP Tyler Davis: 9 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 SO, 2.70 ERA
Scott Lucas had this to say about Davis.
"I've read about Davis getting outs with a changeup, but against a righty-heavy lineup, the righty threw almost nothing but four-seam fastballs (all but two under 90 MPH) and sliders (76-80). It doesn't sound like a recipe for success over 2-3 innings, much less nine, but Davis absolutely owned the Missions from the get-go. He seemingly knew the umpire's strike zone down to the millimeter and consistently threw to its lower corners. The fastball command was flawless. I saw only one "uh oh" heater that 1B Josh Naylor hit hard but just short of the wall for yet another out. Davis mixed in a healthy dose of sliders, baffling hitters hoping to jump on a first-pitch fastball. At the lower velocity it veered into a curvier shape. Davis faced one batter over the minimum and threw only 97 pitches. No Mission reached second base.
Davis has pitched well in seven of ten AA starts. Even so, he has a 5.61 ERA as a pro, and he's not going to throw any harder. He's going to have to prove his worth anew every five days. So far, he's doing just that."
