Money can't buy happiness, but it can buy bacon
Just read that Rielly is going to Leafs camp and will get a chance to make the team.
I actually think the Canucks will get an okay return. Like dash said Kadri needs a change of scenery. The Leafs system is better than people think. They have plenty of depth at forward & defense. Goalie is a blackhole.
i guess it depends on his play?? he doesnt have to do pronger for LTIR but it will be interesting for all teams what they will do
well ya, if he comes out better than last year there's a chance
i'm actually really curious to see what happens this offseason with the buyouts.. could be a few solid additions to the FA pool

What do Canucks fans expect in return for Luongo?
tough to say b/c Burke tends to overvalue every one of his assets, and Gillis is a patient (ie. hard headed) man.
if it is the Leafs, and it's just Luongo, I expect
- either a 1st round pick or a good prospect (would they move Gardiner now that they have Reilly?). as mentioned, Kadri could use a fresh start. But Burke has called both of those people 'untouchables' at one point or another
- a bottom 6 roster plugger, like Joe Colborne or Tyler Bozak
ideally, I would like an impact player back, but the leafs don't really have one that fits.
- Lupul? he'd look good on the 2nd line, but he's only one year from UFA.
- JVR? I'd take it and run
Luongo's contract shouldn't really be a deterrent, even if it is easy to pick on.
cap hit is 5.3m, cash is $6.7m for five years, and drops significantly after that.
I haven't seen anything in the new CBA that keeps existing long contracts on the books when they retire.

saw something this morning that said the teams that signed the original contracts will be the one's that are punished (for contracts > 6 years in length).. lets see if i can find a link to that
@mirtle: Can 100% confirm the new CBA will include the cap benefit recapture formula. It will apply to existing deals "in excess of six years."
“We are proposing that all years of existing long-term contracts in excess of five (5) years be counted against a Club's Cap regardless of whether or where a Player is playing. While such contracts (and Cap charges) can be traded during their terms, in the event a Player subsequently retires or ceases to play, the effective Cap charge would revert to the Club that originally entered into the contract.”

thanks.
so that retirement cap hit would fall on the canucks, and not the team that would trade for him.
even better.... price just went up
jeff carter better plan on being the next chris chelios.. flyers are on the hook for him til he's 37.. richards til he's 34..
based on carter's propensity for "breaking his foot" come playoff time, i cant imagine he's gunna make it much passed 30
if anything i'd say that could lengthen his career
JamesCybulski: I'm told Brian Burke and the Leafs have said no thanks to the Kings regarding G Jonathan Bernier.
Can't say I blame Burke. Lombardi has made it very clear what he wants for Bernier. A 1st round pick & a good prospect.
