Caldwell stated Levy is staying put outside, Whitehead in the middle, Palmer on the other side. Obviously subject to change if someone is failing to do their job. But right now thats the look.

I like keeping Levy on the weak side where he's thrived so far this year.

I'm still getting used to having strong and weak side backers since our last scheme used a right outside linebacker, and a left outside linebacker, rather than weak and strong.

Same with having a free and strong safety again...

IF we can get away with keeping Levy on the outside, it will give us better coverage on the TE. I think once Lewis gets back that he goes in an Palmer comes out.

I don't see that one. Lewis has been repping behind Palmer all camp and preseason, no reason to think he'll suddenly leap-frog him unless Palmer really struggles. I'd imagine the new guy (Boyce?) will be ahead of Lewis as well...

I think Lewis will go to middle and Whitehead will go back outside most likely. Palmer just is not smart enough to play the middle and Whithead on the outside is much better for us. The new guy is just depth and not expected to play unless there is another injury.

Fair enough, I just don't see the evidence to support that. If they wanted Lewis to be backing up Tulloch, it would make sense that he'd be the back-up MLB through camp and the preseason, which he wasn't.

Actually Lewis is the backup MLB. He outplayed Palmer in the preseason. Palmer was the strongside backup before Van Noy got hurt. Whitehead was supposed to backup Levy, but he played so well they let him play weakside instead of Palmer.

It is probably moot anyway as I do not think Lewis is coming back anytime in the near future.

So when were in nickle 62% of the time, it'll be Palmer that's out, right?

I wasn't arguing that Palmer was the back-up Mike, rather that Whitehead was, which is evidenced by the fact he'll be the starter there this weekend. The depth chart may have changed when Van Noy went down and Whithead slid outside, but he was still the guy to move to the middle in an injury situation like we have now.

Caldwell praised his understanding of the defense and his ability to get guys lined up right on the field, so I can't imagine they'll put someone else in there unless he's doing horrible.

Palmer will be the SAM in run situations, and we'll probably go nickel more than we will once Van Noy is back, imo...

Just start the ones with the best hands so they don't drop it when Gino hits them in the numbers

Waddle practiced for a 2nd day. Questionable for Sunday. If not this week, next week is looking good.

S Ihedigbo has practiced 2 consecutive days, but CJ hasn't due to his ankle. Waddle has been limited in practice. I hope he's kept out of starting line-up until next week. It would be better to have him 100% healed than to risk him to another injury that becomes long-term (like the season).

I like the job Quddus has done to this point. Smitty has been high on him from the get go.

The song goes much faster when D-Rob does it......But once the story starts you almost have to hear the ending.....

Tulloch is the No. 1 ranked inside linebacker against the run, according to Pro Football Focus.

DeAndre Levy is the top-ranked outside linebacker against the run, according to PFF.

Slay, PFF has him ranked as the No. 5 cover corner in the NFL so far.
