Even when you're rich, stupidity and taxes will get you every time. At least he's still got $50,000 and is living in a modest rental according to the end of the article. The title of the article is a little misleading.

As a 1994 Warriors season tix holder, I thought we should keep Mitch Richmond (a class guy). Instead we got stuck with this P.O.S.

I liked that dude. I'd give him $10 to sign a jersey!

There wasn't a single transaction that the Warriors got right in the 1990s.

We got Billy Owens for Mitch Ritchmond which was still a huge mistake.

Yes and drafting Sprewell at the 2 Guard position made Richmond expendable in the Warriors eyes. So the mistake was compounded because Latrell was a nightmare for Golden State (as was Webber)

As I remember it, the Warriors were looking for size at the time, Billy Owens was 6 foot 9. He was considered at top 3 pick. The Ws had to offer something considerable at the time to get him. I never followed college ball but I remember thumbing through one of those NBA draft magazines at a store prior to the draft and reading about Billy Owens. The report on Billy Owens then was he was a great talent but wasn't always motivated to play and questioned his desire. How accurate that report turned out to be

The general statistics for all sports is 72%-76% of all professional athletes are broke at some point after they are done playing. How do you burn through $50 million? (The question is rhetorical; I know how they do it.)
